What happens when following your heart means leaving behind the people and relationships that
matter most?
As I prepare to move to Thailand to live with my wife, Pong, I've been thinking about the close
friendships I'll miss in America.
It's also given me a different perspective on immigration and the families facing deportation and
separation.
In this episode, I share my personal experiences, my hopes for immigration reform, and why I
believe compassion and strong immigration laws can exist together.
I'd love to hear from you: Have you ever had to leave behind people or a life you loved to
pursue a different future? #Immigrationreform#familySeparation#immigrationstories#LoveAcrossBorders#ANewSunrise#ScottCoons
Sometimes love means changing the direction of your life.
After years of traveling between Santa Barbara and Thailand, I’ve made the decision to move
to Thailand permanently to be with my wife, Pong.
In this episode of A New Sunrise, I share what went into that decision—from the importance
of family and the cost of living to the excitement of finally building a life together.
It’s not just about leaving America. It’s about creating a new home, embracing a different
culture, and looking forward to the everyday moments we’ve been missing.
A New Sunrise isn’t just about where I’m going. It’s about the life I’m moving toward.

For three years, I have traveled between Santa Barbara and Thailand, building a life with my wife,
Pong, one visit at a time. We worked hard toward Plan A: bringing her to America. But with that path no
longer available to us, we have decided to follow Plan B. In this personal episode of A New Sunrise, I
talk about the heartbreak of a dream that could not happen, the goodbyes that became harder with
every trip, the life and people I cherish in America, and why I have decided to move to Thailand in May
2027. Part 2 will explore what I am looking forward to as I prepare for everyday life there. check out my new book A New Sunrise sub A new life in Thailand on Amazon. Thanks for listening
An 89-year-old woman had spent years writing and collecting stories, but had never turned them
into a book. When Scott Coons began meeting her for lunch and writing sessions, he discovered a
fascinating storyteller and an unexpected friendship. In this episode of A New Sunrise, Scott
remembers listening to her stories about raising her family, their shared love of writing, and a
simple ride to the beach. It is a conversation about friendship across generations, the stories
people carry, and the value of taking time to listen. Scott is the author of the A New Sunrise book
series, including Volume 3, A New Life in Thailand, available on Amazon.
Sometimes happiness is as simple as watching someone you love dance around the kitchen.
In this episode of A New Sunrise, I share some of my favorite memories of life in Thailand with my
wife, Pong. From her dancing to music while preparing breakfast to sharing delicious meals and
spending hours exploring colorful weekend markets, it's the everyday moments that have stayed
with me.
Now, back in Santa Barbara, thousands of miles away from my wife, I've come to appreciate
those moments even more.
As I consider what the next chapter of my life might look like, I've been thinking about what really
makes a place feel like home.
Maybe happiness isn't always about having more. Sometimes it's about appreciating what we
already have.
Join me for a personal conversation about love later in life, retirement, Thailand, and finding joy in
the little things.
My story continues in A New Sunrise - Volume 3: A New Life in Thailand, available on Amazon.

After seven months of writing, A New Sunrise - Volume 3 is finished.
In this episode, I talk about what it feels like to finally complete a book that became much
more personal than I expected. It's a story about my wife in Thailand, retirement,
uncertainty, love, difficult choices, and the possibility of starting a completely different life.
I also share one of the biggest lessons from the process: big accomplishments usually
happen in small pieces. Sometimes it was just sitting down and writing for 30 minutes, but
those small days eventually became a finished book.
If you've ever thought about starting over, taking a chance, traveling later in life, or finally
finishing something important to you, this episode may speak to you.

Life can change in a moment — through people who show up, and through moments that remind us how fragile life really is.
In this episode, Scott shares two powerful real-life experiences: one where Max helped him continue the CR-1 visa journey, and another where Carla helped create a path forward through income and opportunity.
At the same time, the sudden loss of a friend brings everything into perspective — reminding us to appreciate the people in our lives and to say what matters while we still can.
Inspired by real-life experiences and themes from My Book: A New Sunrise, by Scott Coons this episode is about gratitude, loss, and living with intention.

working the way you hoped. Scott shares a personal moment where a message from a close
friend helped him step back and see his work, his writing, and his life from a different
perspective. The conversation reflects on discouragement, adjusting course, and continuing
forward without pretending everything has a perfect ending. If this story resonates with you, you can read more of the journey in my book:
