We all can see that technology is going to change education but that vision hasn't come to fruition yet. This episode goes into my vision for how we need to think big and realize that everyone can be an authentic creators, not just consumers.

This week: Creator Type #1 - Engineer

 After learning the CNC machine, 3D printer, laser cutter, and vinyl cutters, Innovative Arts students start working on becoming a creator of their own types. "Engineer" is one of the six options!

What Engineers do:

        Solve problems and improve lives by building, redesigning, and inventing.

Trello is so useful for organizing information, tracking projects, and in my case, creating a classroom portfolio. Kids can upload pictures, access it from lots of devices, and organize pictures of their work on their own!

On my classroom walls is the most useful classroom management tool for my creative classroom.

It is a sign that has three large phrases:

Creator in Charge

In every classroom, this is a very common easy topic to connect to. If we practice the language, we can help kids better understand how the world works and how to be better prepared for whatever comes!

Cheap 3D printers and design software that runs in a Chromebook browser make it easier than ever to dive into the world of 3d printing in the classroom! You can be an expert in teaching 3D printing with just a bit of practice! As long as you have internet-connected devices, all middle school STEM programs can include 3D design (and hopefully printing!).

After years of failure, I finally have a system to grow growth mindsets and help students internalize the growth mindset lessons. Effective growth mindset lessons can be like a snowball that grows as it rolls!

After purchasing an expensive school printer and getting frustrated with it, we decided to go another way - we bought several of the cheapest but most reliable printers out there! For less than $1500, we have 7 3D printers and they can crank out the projects!
