Entertaining
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd already read this book when it was first released, but listening to it added another depth. Stephanie Murphy has a wide range of voices which made the story even more entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny.
Glad I got the e-book too!
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
yes - the e-book, not the audible!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Stephanie Murphy has a nice and pleasent voice - so why why why does she nasty things to it. Like speek through the nose (I'm certain she holds it close for that!) for the voice of Doris or speeks in growls for male voices..... Sorry - I could not end the book on audible. Glad I got it as e-book.
Started out a little slow
The narrator read slowly so I bumped it up to 1.5 . I felt that the author added too much description of superfluous details in the beginning . I had trouble keeping interest for the first few chapters, but it got better. I had two suspects in mind for the killer but wasn't sure until the end who the killer actually was. I liked the characters although the voice of the boyfriend, who was supposed to be so attractive, made him sound like a real loser. The book was funny though and I enjoyed listening to it.
Narrator created cartoon voices for characters
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator's performance was only good with her regular voice. The character voices she used were cartoonish and unconvincing. Young women sounded like they were hacking out lungs and the male voices were amateurish and fake. I would expect this kind of voice performance from an ordinary person trying to read a novel to his or her children. From a professional, I expect more. I love audiobooks and this is the first time a narrator's poor performance with her side characters made me not want to finish the book.
Fun, light cozy mystery
Great first novel from Sharon Love Cook of the cozy mystery variety. The narration by Stephanie Murphy was perfectly paced and excellent for conveying humor. A light, easy, entertaining read with likable characters.
