This episode we are honored to spend time with the incomparable Khaanakh Dr. Ruth Demmert.  She tells us stories of living through both tuberculosis and COVID, and speaks about her relationship with S'áx't (Devil's Club).

It's summertime, and A Piece of Kake is back with a special solo episode from Mona!  Mona tells us about harvesting black seaweed in springtime.  And, she shares some summer musings on retaining community memory and the power of kindness.  

This ep was recorded outside Mona's house, so you'll hear some live summer sounds of Kake.  There is rain water dripping from the gutter, trucks and ATVs passing, and multiple birds who join in.  Special thanks to the sparrow who hung out the entire recording to add their song!

Part II of our amazing interview with Paul Marks II!  Paul talks with Sarah about how to have a respectful relationship with the ocean, the interdependence between indigenous people and salmon, how to handle risk as a commercial fisherman, and what it feels like to fish the same waters his ancestors have traveled for generations.
