A Pint With Seaniebee episodes

  • Episode 39 - Guy Venables has a pint with Seaniebee
One of the world’s most renowned Photographers’ Agents joins the pod to share his preposterously eclectic life story. A creative raconteur, Guy was born in Surrey to a single mother from India. He charts his journey from childhood idyll, through working as a fruit seller, a personal dresser in the theatre (where he encountered the likes of Peter O’Toole, Shirley Bassey and the late John Hurt), and an assistant to a movie director before eventually emigrating to Australia, where initial skirmishes in the ad business led to him setting up the first photographers’ agency in the Eastern Hemisphere. His ‘light bulb’ life moments are characterized by him spotting opportunity in the most unlikely places and fearlessly grasping it with both hands. We also learn the importance of being your ‘authentic self’ by finding ‘the difference that makes the difference’ and not wasting time doing things that don’t serve your grander life goals.

  • Episode 37 – Bure has a pint with Seaniebee
In 1990 the band Sikter formed on a whim when a group of drunk friends, bored with the standard of music at a concert they were attending, stormed the stage, kicked the headline act off and proceeded to take over the gig. 27 years later, they are still going strong as one of Eastern Europe’s most famous and pioneering acts. The founder and lead singer joins the pod to recount a crazy, Spinal-Tap-like journey that has seen collaborations with the likes of Bono, famous Italian rocker Vasco Rossi and Luciano Pavarotti. For the final podcast of 2016, we get a fascinating insight into what it was like to grow up in Ireland in the middle of the last century. Tadgh O’Donoghue was raised on Valentia Island in the Kingdom of Kerry; graduated from UCD, and eventually became a partner in PWC where he played a pivotal role in attracting foreign investment into the country. We also discuss the future of capitalism and the factors that lead to economic crashes, the rise of Trump, inequality, and the current populist dissention that is spreading across our world.

  • Episode 34 – Gordon Gerard McLean has a pint with Seaniebee
Seaniebee’s good friend and fellow adman joins the pod to chart his life story and share his learned wisdom. Living a Dublin childhood bereft of purpose, we learn how he built a strategy for his life initially through trial and error, yet based on deeply held instincts that there was more to the journey out there than the traditional avenues we are pushed down in our teenage years. His career moved from training as a tradesman, through social care, emigrating to the UK to study psychology and eventually falling into the ad business, where he has steadily risen through the ranks to become one of the best communication strategists in the world.
Now over ten years sober, Gordon candidly takes us through his descent into alcoholism, chaos, darkness and loneliness and his emergence out the other side.
Our podcast then takes an abrupt turn into full-on love story, as he moves to New York and meets and marries the girl of his dreams. His tale is one of recognizing and grasping pivotal light-bulb moments, whilst at the same time embracing the importance of luck and serendipity as we plot our way through all this world can throw at us.

Originally from Springfield Massachusetts, Tavis was born an only child into a difficult marriage. He recounts how a troubled early life obsessed with guns eventually led him to joining The Marines for four years as a rifle expert.
Returning to New York from tours in the Middle East at the age of 22, he shares the extreme difficulties he had readjusting back into society and the generally poor levels of support proffered to today’s returning US military veterans.

  • Episode 32 - Ferdinando Verderi has a pint with Seaniebee
Ferdinando is a founding member and creative director at Johannes Leonardo (New York). Born in Parma, he was classically educated in Ancient Greek, Latin and philosophy, which he credits with his inbuilt curiosity and ability to think creatively in abstract terms.
His roots run deep: from advertising, through art, photography, fashion, economics, magazine publishing and the recent co-authorship of the inspiring book – We Can’t Do This Alone – with Jefferson Hack.
We learn how the future doesn’t necessarily need to be as bleak and dystopian as many are forecasting; why it’s important to understand that every life choice we make is far-from-final; how the ‘younger you’ should be your biggest critic as you advance through life; and why the bigger the problems we have, may mean the bigger the life that we’re actually living.
