Training 4 Influence

A powerful reminder: kindness makes all the difference with Noel Moran

Listen Later

In this episode, Tammy chats with Noel about his 15 years in prison and how support from two frontline professionals (and developing his own yoga practice) helped him turn his life around. They discuss Noel’s own experience with professionals who saw potential with him when few others did, the potential for prisons to act as a space to rehabilitate inmates and not merely punish them and Noel gives his own advice for struggling and burned-out professionals.

Born out of his lived-experience, Noel’s mission is to change lives for the better by creating a social movement that reduces social harm. Noel spent 15 years in prison and, during this time, he was committed to his own personal development.

Noel believes that everyone deserves a second chance and an opportunity to grow. In his work, he aims to understand people and help them find meaning.

Noel joined the Penal Reform System as a researcher in September 2016. His work with the PRS led him to being appointed as the Business Manager in 2019, thus making him central to the organisation's development. Noel is a major advocate in positive change and believes everyone has the capability to unlock their highest potential.

He specialises in:

  • Yoga and Mindfulness
  • Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor
  • Rehabilitative Work
  • Growing Organisational Culture
  • Motivational Speaking
  • Programme Design and Delivery
  • Relationships
  • Post-Traumatic Growth
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Mental Health

Noel’s expertise in yoga has led him to create a unique 10-week mindfulness-based yoga programme (Noela Yoga); adopting and integrating the principles of growth, through creative visualisations, meditation and positive affirmations.

Noel also delivers motivational speeches to prisons, schools and wider communities. He enjoys empowering and inspiring others, delivering presentations about his own difficulties and traumas he has faced within his life.

He talks about loss, the journey to success and staying on track, as well as how the principles of growth apply within organisations and the significant impact of this. It is from his lived-experience that Noel has become extremely forward-thinking, with the attitude that personal growth can be found in any of us and within any environment.

In this series 5 of the Training 4 Influence podcast, we’re talking to guests who’ve had their lives changed by professionals who have gone above and beyond to ensure that they were listened to and that their needs were met. Our aim is to explore the immeasurable impact these professionals have made to the lives of service users, so we’ll be hearing about the lived-experience of people from a variety of backgrounds.

Training 4 Influence is a creative solution, a methodology that can transform any training session, weaving values-led ‘golden threads’ that influence organisational outcomes throughout every training session.

Every training day is precious! In sectors where caseloads are increasing, employees are burning out and every decision impacts lives, it's paramount that we upskill and positively influence outcomes at every opportunity.
