With mass mobilization and protest ongoing throughout Chile since October, we turn our sights back to Santiago for today’s episode. What are the popular grievances, concerns, and demands that have brought millions of people into the streets—and what have these grassroots movements been able to achieve?

Our guest is historian Adam Schesch, recently returned from an extended trip to Chile, who offers a firsthand account and analysis of the popular uprising there.

Adam Schesch is a historian of guerilla warfare and civil resistance. In 1973, while imprisoned in the National Stadium in Santiago, Chile, he witnessed the execution of several hundred people. He maintained ties to the resistance and now returns to Chile frequently.
