May 22, 2020Increasing The Bittern YieldToday’s episode is all about the intertwining world of rice, wildlife and the environment! We caught up with Ecologist Matt Herring who gives us insights into the secret life of the Australasian Bittern and explains the Local Land Services Bittern Friendly Rice Project. Results to date for this project has indicated that the density of Bitterns utilising the Bittern Friendly Rice is 3-4 times greater than the control sites. May 06, 2020Cracking Up Over Whole Grain YieldThis week we are talking all things Whole Grain Yield with Dr Rachael Wood and PhD candidate Allister Clarke. Rachael explains her findings on the impact of grower management practices on whole grain yield. She looked in particular at planting density, the rate and timing of fertiliser application and different irrigation methods on rice grain quality. Allister Clarke is currently completing his PhD through the Functional Grains Center and Food Agility CRC to develop a model to allow rice to be graded on quality at the delivery stand.
