Jack and Yair kick off an exciting series of RP2023 with a detailed dissection of the British TV dramas Life On Mars (2006-7) and its spinoff/sequel series Ashes To Ashes (2008-10), and their iconic "Clarkson but it's ok because he's not real" antihero Gene Hunt. We talk about how the shows contrast the rough and rowdy days of the '70s and '80s with the sort of radical leftist woke culture of the late Tony Blair era, and how they pointed the way towards David Cameron's straight-talking, honest 2010s. Along the way, we check in on the American and Russian remakes and assess what they got right and wrong (shocker, we come out more pro-Russia on this.)
