This episode I'm joined by my wonderful friends Komal and Zulakha, to share our experiences of racism we face in Hong Kong on almost a daily basis, whether outwardly or indirectly.
This is one of the most important episodes of the podcast for me so far. I have had many formative experiences dealing with racism almost all my life in Hong Kong, some positive, many negative. It is a personal and vulnerable episode.
My friends Komal and Zulakha very generously offered their voices, experiences, and thoughts on this topic for this episode. We shared a lot with each other in this episode about what we face, how we feel and what we've been through. I think we might have forgotten that we were live and recording a podcast and this all turned into just 3 friends sharing their hearts and minds. It takes an open heart and a mature outlook to be this vulnerable on air about some of the most personal experiences. I cannot thank Komal and Zulakha more for this.

Hi! This is the Woman, Asian & Bloody Immigrant podcast, my name is Kamaria and I am your host.
This is a podcast where I will invite people I know and admire, to have conversations on big or small but equally interesting topics like climate change or cancel culture on social media.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve been inspired by brown immigrant public figures like the actor Riz Ahmed, the rapper Lowkey, the writer Suhaiymah Manzoor Khan and many more, who give their takes on issues and topics that we almost always hear from white voices by default which has left a one dimensional view on the table that ignores and dismisses other perspectives and experiences that could change the conversation entirely. I want to start applying our perspective on these subjects.
There is a serious lack of women, ethnic minority and immigrant’s voices when it comes to this type of interesting and deep conversations. We may share our opinions on climate change or cancel culture in private, but I think it’s really important to bring these conversations public because we need our unique voices out there. We need to represent ourselves.
Putting our conversations out there will encourage our communities to think deeper, open ourselves to new ideas and speak our minds more often.
My first guest is my good friend Komal and we are talking about YouTube, how it’s changed from its early days, YouTube creators then and, the drama business that’s taking over the creative side of YouTube and how the platform is influencing our younger generation.

This is a podcast where I will invite people I know and admire, to have conversations on big topics like climate change, poverty, identity and many more complex and sometimes uneasy subjects.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve been inspired by brown immigrant public figures like the actor Riz Ahmed, the rapper Lowkey, the writer Suhaiymah Manzoor Khan and many more, who give their takes on issues and topics that we almost always hear from white voices by default. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that but it has left a singular conversation on the table that ignores and dismisses other perspectives and experiences that could change the conversation entirely.
I want to start applying our perspective on these subjects. There is a serious lack of women, ethnic minority and immigrant’s voices when it comes to these type of interesting and deep conversations, we seldom see ordinary brown people have a conversation about Free Will or the Justice System or Freedom, on the public front.
We may share our opinions in private, but I think it is really important to bring these conversations public, because we need our unique voices out there. We need to represent ourselves.
Putting our opinions and conversations out there, will encourage our communities to think deeper, open ourselves to new ideas and speak our minds more often.
My first guest will be my very good friend Zulakha and we will be talking about Colourism in South Asian society. We will talk about skin-whitening products, white skin superiority and discuss how we can tackle this problem in our communities to stop the generational spread.
