Welcome to the 2007-2008 Coulee Kids' podcast. This third annual teacher introduction is a review of past years and a glimpse of the new and improved Coulee Kids' Podcast.

Coulee Kids wrote Haikus after completing a unit of study on Japan.

Coulee Kids discover many clever ways to study flowers using math, science, and art. Flowers are dissected, measurements are calculated, and Proscopes magnified the replication of pollen tubes right in front of our eyes. Finally, the beauty of flowers is preserved in a three-dimensional model and pressed artwork.

Learn more about three chromosomal disorders: Down Syndrome, Cri du Chat, and Turner Syndrome. You will be amazed to find out how slight chromosomal mutations can make a large impact on physical development.

During our Applied Genetics Unit, we explored selective breeding, cloning, gene therapy, and DNA fingerprinting. Not only did we study the facts, but we made individual choices about which scientific advances fit our own ethical viewpoints.

Cells are the basic building block of life. This podcast covers cell theory and development, the functions of cell organelles, the cell cycle, and how materials move in and out of a cell.

On February 21, The School and The Coulee students from Longfellow Middle School and the Medical Partnership students from Lincoln Middle School met to conduct a mock senatorial debate about stem cell research. We met at the Mathy Ethics Center at Viterbo College. After listening to experts in the medical, scientific, and religious sectors, we discussed, debated, and persuaded the other pseudo senators to take on our viewpoint about stem cells.

Improving athletic performance is the goal of athletes, and knowing and understanding the scientific method is the goal that science teachers have for their students. We used the scientific method to see if listening to music on our iPods made an impact on our daily walk/run. The question we proposed was, "How will athletic performance be affected by listening to songs with faster or slower beats per minute?"
