Reflecting on My Experience with Milan Beauty Academy
Last Tuesday, June 24th, 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to connect with the talented students of Milan Beauty Academy in Clovis, CA, through an online session. During this time, I shared a glimpse into the history of our profession and engaged with some thought-provoking questions from the students like:
· As a duel licensed professional, what benefit did each training give you?
· Are there different standards for manufacturing hair color brands, globally?
· What guidelines should a new colorist follow while choosing a color line?
· Can a test strand reveal the type of minerals in the water?
· What recommendations do you have for working over Henna?
It was an emotional experience for me as I reflected on why I chose to become a salon professional. I presented a condensed chronicle of industry milestones alongside my personal journey, highlighting my dual licensure as both a Barber and Cosmetologist. With a degree in Chemistry from UC Long Beach, CA, and my experience as an educator in both academic settings and product development, I felt compelled to share my insights.
After reviewing the raw footage, it was suggested that I transform this session into a podcast. The consensus was that even seasoned professionals in our industry might find the information valuable and inspiring.
So, I’m excited to share it with you!
This episode is longer than most of our podcasts—running approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes—but I believe the content is a worthwhile investment of your time. Dive in and join me as we explore the rich tapestry of our industry together!
I truly love working with students because they represent the future of our profession. In today’s world, where social media plays such a significant role, it can be overwhelming for them to navigate the industry.
I find great fulfillment in sharing the lineage of the beauty profession and honoring the pioneers who set the standard for all of us. It’s crucial that we remember their contributions and the foundation they built, as it continues to shape our industry today.
I hope you enjoy this episode and find it beneficial, inspiring, or enlightening. Regardless of your experience level, I encourage you to sit back and enjoy the listen!
