The prophet Simeon took baby Jesus in his arms and declared that He would be a light to the Gentiles and to Israel: "a sign to be spoken against" (Luke 2:34). And this brightening light would cause many to "fall" in offense, but others would "rise" in the light of this new life. God's people are on a long journey of restoration—out of deep darkness, into the light of the fully restored New Testament Church. But light causes separation, causing some to fall and others to rise. When the light of greater truth brightens our path, what will our response be—to fall in offense or rise in faith?
