Julia never expected to fall in love with a girl, let alone a girl in a Victorian dress and goth-style makeup!
A book group as therapy? There have been worse ideas, but Julia is not a 'joiner' and she resents being asked to deal with her social phobias. She loves to read, but showing up and speaking up about mysteries is sheer torture... until a very unusual girl joins the group. Warning: this sweet and fairly sultry romance is about two young women falling in love with each other. I don't swing that way myself but I found the story of Julia being drawn out of her shell very moving.
Unexpected Beauty in this Powerful Tale
Unexpected love strikes (again!) at Acorn's book club. I have read all of them, and this third tale is in my mind the most gentle, and the most darkly beautiful. There is an awkwardness along with great beauty in how Lara and Julia approach each other and the world. You might even feel tears coming on!
