This Season I will be taking you to small harbors in the Stockholm and Åland archipelagos.

On this episode Neil Fletcher and myself talk about the quaint guest harbor of Blidö on the island of the same name that is part of the Stockholm archipelago. We describe the setting and talk a bit about its lovely "Sandkil" sailboat Helmi and about the facilities at the Blidö Hamnkrog.

On this episode I take us to Avalon's "Bay of Seven Moons" on Catalina Island. Once owned by the Wrigley (gum) family, they turned Avalon into a tourist destination for sailors and landlubbers alike.

I sailed over for a scuba diving trip with my little brother at the remarkable "Casino Point Dive Park" at the foot of Avalon's famous Casino building. I talk about my experiences here, how to get a slip assignment and what to expect.

Episode 006 : Little Scorpion Anchorage is located on the Eastern most point of Santa Cruz Island in Southern California. In this podcast, recorded under anchor at Little Scorpion, I tell you what I know about the anchorage and my thoughts and experiences at this anchorage and talk a little about my trip to the anchorage from Pelican Bay. Little Scorpion is divided from its namesake, Scorpion, by two large rocks that protect the anchorage from the winds and swells that primarily come out of the west or northwest. A deep anchorage with 30' only being found near to the rocks or cliff sides. With no safe landing for dinghies you can explore the sea caves and cliffs by dinghy or kayak or make your way around to Scorpion to land and hike. I spent the afternoon exploring the sea caves in the water snorkeling. Episode 005 : Pelican Bay Anchorage is located on the North side of Santa Cruz Island in Southern California. In this podcast, recorded under anchor at Pelican Bay, I tell you what I know about the anchorage and my thoughts and experiences at this anchorage and talk a little about my trip to the anchorage from Cueva Valdez. Pelican Bay is surrounded by tall cliffs and is very protected from the Northwest Swell giving me a wonderful night under anchor that felt more like I was on a lake than on an Island in the Pacific Ocean. The beach landing to explore onshore is just east of the bay around the corner from the bay itself and can be seen as you motor in to drop the hook. It was a pebble and stone landing and a tree lined valley and well marked trail come down to the beach. Its an easy hike up to the former foundation of the Pelican Bay Resort that operated here in the 1920s where you get a great view of the anchorage. I saw Acorn woodpeckers and the Island Scrub Jay and Island Fox whom both only exist on the Channel Islands. Episode 004 : Cueva Valdez Anchorage is located on the North side of Santa Cruz Island in Southern California. In this podcast, recorded under anchor at Cueva Valdez, I tell you what I know about the anchorage and my thoughts and experiences at this anchorage and talk a little about my trip to the anchorage from Forney Cove. Cueva Valdez is a wonderful anchorage for exploring the sea caves that surround it, although very rolly if you don't dope a stern anchor.
