A Sure Hope

Has serving the Lord ever felt like a chore to you? The truth is that everybody can answer yes to that. If that’s where you are, ask yourself if you are serving out of either obligation or love for God. We tend to remember the things that our parents say to us. As David is passing the thrown down to his son, his words aren’t “you’ve got this. You and I were created for the glory and pleasure of God. When you start your day, is that mission at the forefront of your mind? Most of us would have to say no… we’re thinking about work, the kids, the projects, etcetera... Pastor Dave will challenge us in today’s message to live our lives as an act of worship to God.

We tend to think of the Apostles and the early Church as a spiritual step above us. Because they saw Christ or knew someone who had, we think they had more access to the Holy Spirit. They didn’t. Pastor Dave will explain in today’s message that we have just as much access to the Holy Spirit today.

God honors humble, repentant hearts. Even in David’s time, God’s forgiveness depended on His grace – the sacrifices were just placeholders for the coming Christ. A sacrifice brought with pride was useless in God’s sight. Pastor Dave will remind us in today’s message that God welcomes us when we come in humility.

Think of a memorable church camp when you were younger. Or maybe a meaningful retreat with your church. These experiences leave their mark – in a good way. But, as Pastor Dave will warn in today’s message, most of the Christian journey is not a mountaintop, and the enemy levels its worst at you right after those spiritual highs.

Sometimes God’s will is confusing and utterly different from what we expect or want. Whether it’s something big or small, God may be using it as an opportunity to increase our faith or the faith of those around us. Today, Pastor Dave will encourage us to trust God and keep going with the confidence that He is in control.

David made some serious mistakes but had patience and humility as he followed God’s plan for his life. He likely had moments where He wondered when or if God would fulfill His promises, but as Pastor Dave will point out in today’s message, David didn’t try to take the reins; he waited on God and trusted He'd come through.
