The business world is largely driven by chasing financial growth. People tend to act, assuming that averages will be consistent and apply to everyone.
Democracies empower people to influence the future of their nations - but if we want our governments to create a thrivable future, we need correct and timely information. But how can we achieve this?
We release new episodes on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month. See previous episodes here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLU_DSmE4Mb5lQ5ifmaxlHrmygjvV0mTQR or https://anchor.fm/thrivabilitymatters

Architecture makes up a significant part of our lives - but many of our towns and cities fail to consider people’s needs. There is a need to adapt the spaces where we live and work, and how we act within them. But how? And how can we make sure the needs of both people and ecosystems are met?
We welcome Caroline Pidcock, an Australian architect and sustainable development advocate. With over 30 years of experience working in architecture, biophilia and regenerative design, she seeks to inspire us to create buildings and communities that consider the diverse needs of everyone - not just a few.
In this episode, we discuss how architecture and adaptation can help us achieve net zero emissions, how regenerative design can improve our lives, and the connections between feminism and sustainable design. Through understanding, we can build a thrivable future. (35 mins)

We all hear about sustainability as a solution to a better future. But what is sustainability really about? How do we live sustainably while still fulfilling our needs?
From natural disasters to climate change, our world is struggling. Solutions are in reach - but they can be difficult to embrace.
How can music contribute to a thrivable future? Through music, everyone can convey their stories, and learn about the world and the myriad of peoples that share it.
Dr. Kim Cunio, activist composer and Head of the School of Music at the Australian National University, is here to talk to us about how music can promote equality - and help people from cultures around the world understand and respect one another.
To this end, we discuss the issues behind inequality and privilege, how we can give people equal opportunities, and how music can bridge the cultures that make up our world. If we can respect and provide equal opportunities to one another, we can make a thrivable future where we all live in harmony with each other. (40 mins)

Our world is made up of interconnected systems. But many of these systems are designed around maximising growth at the expense of others - which is unsustainable. What can we do to change this?
Dr. Anneloes Smitsman is an expert in achieving societal transformations and systemic barriers to change. Her Ph.D. dissertation ‘Into the Heart of Systems Change’ is part of a systemic worldwide effort to transform economics, education, politics, and governance through her proposed Transition Plan for a Thrivable Civilization.
We talk about Sustainable Development Goal 16 - around peace, justice and the institutions - from local councils to global organisations - that ensure a safe and thriving world for all.
We also highlight the issues of corruption, the effects of laws and policies on societies, and how we can all improve the systems that govern us. Through systemic change, we can potentially make a thrivable future where we all live in harmony with each other. (36 mins)

Partnerships are what underpin efforts to be more sustainable.
Whether between countries, businesses, communities, or individuals, helping one another with the issues that affect our lives can ensure every single one of us can reach our full potential.
Today, we speak to Dr. Meghna Ramaswamy, the Research and Partnerships Director of the University of Saskatchewan’s International Office. Based in Canada, she leads a team of international research and partnership specialists to support international activities for faculty, staff, and students. She is also deeply involved in promoting sustainable research and partnerships, and is a passionate advocate for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 17 - forming partnerships for the goals.
We discuss the need to make and strengthen our global partnerships to achieve sustainable development, why they are important, and how we can make sure they best assist the people who need support the most. If we work together, we can make a thrivable future, where we all live in harmony with nature (and each other). (40 mins)

Education gives us the tools to understand the world around us. However, there are many children who struggle to learn in schools. We’d like to ask if there’s a better way to help them learn.
We speak to Dr. Rebecca English, a researcher and teacher at Queensland University of Technology in Australia. She specialises in parenting and education, especially alternative education methods. Having spent several years teaching children, she has used this experience to explore how parenting practices influence the decisions they make for their children.
Together, we discuss homeschooling and alternative education paths, how mainstream education can meet the needs of all children, and ways that parents can teach their children to grow into healthy and happy adults. If we work together, we can empower our kids to create a thrivable future! (47 mins).

Today, we speak to Dr. Nektarios Karanikas, an Associate Professor of Health, Safety and Environment at Queensland University of Technology. He has done much to advance the cause of safety, having taught countless people about safety. He also launched the International Cross-industry Safety Conference in 2016 to provide a forum for ideas to make safer work environments. Having previously served as an aeronautical engineer with the Hellenic Air Force for 18 years, he wishes to discuss his experiences around safety and accident prevention.
In this episode, we discuss safety regulations in workplaces, why worker safety is important, and how businesses can keep people safe. Together, we can help our world thrive! (40 mins)
