A Tribute to Jed Marshall

Listen Later

Rest in peace, Jed.

Jed Marshall's obituary:

John David Marshall (Jed), 40, of Overland Park, KS, passed away overnight on September 26, 2023. Jed was born in New Jersey, but his family moved to Overland Park when he was 2 months old and he spent most of his life there. He was deeply committed to the friends he met in childhood and remained close to the Hadley gang for his entire life.

Jed graduated from Blue Valley North High School and went on to the University of Kansas. Although he earned his degree in communications from Ottawa University, he was a devoted Jayhawks fan his entire life and probably could list the starting lineups for any KU basketball team in any given year.

Also a lifelong follower of Michigan football, Jed was passionate about all sports and was proud to make that his career. He is especially remembered by his co-workers and listeners of 810 WHB Sports Radio for his funny personality, expansive knowledge of sports statistics, and his insightful (and sarcastic) commentary.

In addition to sports, Jed was a big fan of music, as well as quirky TV shows that matched his dry sense of humor. There was no event that he couldn’t compare to an episode of “The Simpsons” or “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Music was a strong emotional outlet for him; he loved the Beatles, Phish, and numerous others. He traveled several times to see Phish in concert, most recently with his wife, Kathleen, for his 40th birthday.

Jed was always a hugger who felt things very deeply. He loved his family very much and told them often over the years. He especially adored his mom and dad and loved spending time with them -- playing cards, hanging out on the back porch near the pool, or just talking. He was so proud of his role as the funny uncle to his young nieces and nephews, and he cherished his cats Marley and Dopey. The best thing that ever happened to him was marrying Kathleen on December 23, 2022.

Jed is survived by his two sisters: Betsy (Eric) Roadman and Katie (Andy) Betts; six nieces and nephews: Drew, John and Grace Roadman, and AJ, Paige and Patrick Betts; plus a large extended family that included loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends who were also considered family. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Diane Marshall, and his wife, Kathleen Ingraham Marshall.
