Podcast Ep. 15 Karishma Hosein

Karishma Hosein is currently pursing a PhD in Kinesiology at Western University. Karishma is working to find the best way to help pregnant people begin being physically active and eating well during their pregnancies, and even after the baby is born. Outside of research, Karishma works as a dance and fitness instructor. She began her formal dance training at the age of three in ballet, jazz, and tap. Since then, she has completed training in Royal Academy of Dance ballet, Graham and Limón modern, jazz, tap, contemporary, and lyrical, and has performed for two seasons with The National Ballet of Canada in their production of The Nutcracker. Currently, Karishma is teaching dance in London, Ontario and hopes that her classes will inspire participants to get up and move!

Seth is multi-talented, multi-faceted, and is constantly learning new skills. He is known for his work in Christmas Chronicles, Schitt's Creek, and Designated Survivor, as well as several other Canadian and International shows and films.  Born in New Delhi, India, he came to Canada as a young teenager. He began his artistic journey in radio in 2006; producing and co-hosting the morning radio show in Toronto on AM 530. Following this first foray into the creative world, he took up dancing and singing, alongside radio.  Soon after, he began taking improv classes at the Toronto Second City to develop the skill of listening and performing under pressure. In 2011, he spent 45 days in the pristine islands of Philippines, while competing for the top spot on 'Survivor India', the gruelling world-renowned reality show.  Following his success on the show he moved to Mumbai in 2012 to pursue his dream of working alongside Bollywood icons like Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan in 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects'. He trained with Anupam Kher at his 'Actor Prepares' academy during this period and continued to work on his dance and 'action for camera' skills. While living in Mumbai he teamed up with local talent and co-founded BottomsUp Productions, a new-media creative house, where he wrote, and conceptualized short films for the urban youth.  Life and love brought him back to Toronto in 2013, and he has since worked with Canadian filmmakers and playwrights. He has a passion for acting, singing, writing, traveling, and is a dedicated believer in the concept of 'kaizen' - the practice of self-improvement by making continuous incremental changes. Hence, since coming back he has trained with the top acting schools of Toronto.  Aside from acting he also teaches yoga in Toronto, and has a Youtube channel, The Kaizen Man, through which he spreads his passion for fitness, health, and lifestyle.  Since 2019, Seth has turned his attention to writing and directing independent projects, including two TV pilots and a feature script.

Young Indian Monologues is a read-through done by Anushray Singh of the upcoming book of the same name. It is a unique podcast series, which wants to culminate into a written & audio book.

Chapter 2: "With the advent of smartphones, cheap internet penetrating nooks and crannies of India, we have finally realized and recognizing arts and creativity scene across our diverse population across different Indian states, neighboring South Asian nations and the diaspora spread across the world. The hunger for this arts and creative scene to emerge has always been there. Indian film industries, Bollywood to various thriving ones across South India has not been honouring but rather worshiping their actors, filmmakers, musicians and creatives. Indian and South Asian religions, spiritual practices, regional cultures have always fostered very strong national and subnational identities. The modern Indian cultural revolution is led by young millennials and generation Z artists and creatives."

About the Project: "I am Anushray Singh, I am a human-person, who have happened to be born in Northern India, and through a mixture of privilege, luck, inner passion, curiosity, lack of technical skills, self-awareness and what-not, I want to write authentically, and honestly. I want to write about my life as an Indian millennial. I want to talk about how I, and millions of young Indian millennial are navigating life at our current climate. We have heard and listened to many inspiring millennial perspectives from America and the greater West. I feel, as one of the largest democracies in the world, in the heart of South Asia, we as the biggest and youngest millennial population merit consideration of our unique perspectives. My and the young Indian perspectives are shaped by histories, cultures, ethnicities, socio-linguistics, struggles, philosophies, politics, science, arts and much more that dates back to thousands of years. As an Indian, I can make this assumption, that the modern Indian identity is a beautiful confluence of traditional Indian intuitiveness and modern Western intellect."

The Journal is published quarterly with original writing and artwork by young people. We are an independent platform for and from voices across the globe, aiming to minimise echo chambers across cities and institutions.

Hasheel has been training in East Indian Classical Vocal since the age of 5. In 2001, Hasheel also started playing the Bansuri (Indian flute) and is currently a senior student of the legendary Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. He is also under the tutelage of renowned singer Pandit Ajay Pohankar. Hasheel has performed around the world and across Ontario. He is also featured in numerous albums and film scores with over 100 tracks to his name. His collaborations include those with Balkan musicians all the way to electronic and hip hop artists.  

As part of the South Asian Creativity Festival 2021, we are featuring creatives of South Asian origin from all over the world. They will be part of our digital book "The Brown Book." 📕📚📖  Our most ambitious and passionate project up to date. We are collabing with 50+ South Asian origin creatives around the world through various digital means. 🧑🏽‍🎨
