A Victorious Savior: Universalism the Only View that Supports Victory Over Death

Conditionalism also known as Annhilation is gaining support, but is it truly the view that supports a victorious Savior, and victory over death?

The New Testament repeatedly proclaims that Christ came to defeat sin, death, and the devil. The gospel is not simply about rescue for a few—it is about the ultimate triumph of God over everything that has corrupted creation.

But when we examine some theological views about the final destiny of humanity, we have to ask whether those views truly reflect the victory that Scripture describes.

Two views often discussed are annihilationism and eternal conscious torment. While they differ in important ways, both share something in common—they ultimately leave death as a permanent outcome for part of humanity.

Annihilationism teaches that some people will ultimately cease to exist. In this view, God finally destroys the wicked, removing them from existence entirely.

Another traditional view, Eternal Conscious Torment, teaches that some will suffer eternally without end.

But when we step back and consider the gospel message, an important question arises:
If death continues forever for part of humanity—whether through annihilation or endless torment—has death truly been defeated?

The New Testament repeatedly declares that Christ came to conquer death itself.
