We read Romans 1 through Romans 4 as a single flow, tracking how Paul moves from the gospel’s power to the reality of human sin and God’s righteous judgment. We land on the centerpiece claim that righteousness is credited by faith and secured by grace, with Abraham held up as the model of trust in God’s promise.
• Paul’s calling and the gospel promised in Scripture
• Gratitude for the Roman believers and the desire for mutual encouragement
• The gospel as God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes
• Truth suppressed through idolatry and the moral fallout that follows
• A warning against hypocrisy and self-righteous judgment
• God’s kindness, patience, and the call to repentance
• The law, conscience, and God’s impartial judgment
• Outward religion versus inward heart change by the Spirit
• Universal sin and the limits of works-based righteousness
• Justification by grace through faith in Jesus Christ
• Abraham’s faith credited as righteousness before circumcision

We read through Romans 1–3 and follow Paul’s argument from the promise of the gospel to the problem of sin and the hope of justification by faith. We feel the weight of God’s truth, the danger of hypocrisy, and the relief of grace through Jesus Christ.
• Paul’s identity and calling to preach the gospel to the nations
• The gospel as God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes
• God’s wrath revealed against suppressing truth and exchanging worship
• A culture’s moral collapse traced back to idolatry and refusal to give thanks
• God’s kindness meant to lead us to repentance rather than self-confidence
• The danger of judging others while doing the same things
• The law and conscience exposing what is written on the heart
• Religious boasting challenged and outward markers weighed against inward reality
• The case that all people are under sin and every mouth is silenced
• Justification by grace through faith in Jesus Christ apart from works of the law

Romans 1:16 says
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes, first to the jew then to the greek.
I'm going to say it slowly in phrases, say it with me or when I pause.
I am not ashamed
of the gospel,
Because it is the power of God for salvation
to everyone who believes,
first to the jew then to the greek.
