pIn Bṛhad-Bhāgavatāmṛta 2.3.11 Gopa-kumāra says: “The planets I had earlier attained one by one, over a long period of time, I now crossed in the blink of an eye, as if by the power of my mind alone.”/p
pAnd the purport: “It might be said that since these planets are nothing more substantial than assemblages of the guṇas of material nature, they no longer appear independently real to someone who has subdued his mind; and so, in this sense, passing out of this universe is but an effort of the mind. But since Gopa-kumāra physically broke through the sphere the sun, he did have to exert himself. Therefore the qualification iva (“as if”) is here added to the word manasā (“by the mind”).”/p
pWhat does it mean that “passing out of this universe is but an effort of the mind”. Could you kindly elaborate?/p

pRecently you have spoken at length of the need for devotees to meditate on their diksa guru while chanting guru gayatri. What should be their meditation during maṅgala-ārati during chanting of the Gurvāṣṭaka? Since this is a collective meditation, being kīrtana, and usually ends with the chanting of “jaya prabhupāda”, is it correct that at this time we meditate on our founder-ācārya? Or is it a personal choice?/p
