A2TP-Ep-92---NO-CASH-BAIL

Listen Later

Joining states like Alaska, Illinois, and their neighbor to the east, New Jersey, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has decided to eliminate the requirement of cash bail for those charged with certain crimes. As to be expected, this decision has created some discourse on one side and celebration on the other.  The thought of accused robbers, dealers, assaulters & maybe even those who attempted to take a life being allowed to remain in the community may be frightening. But as the law states, all are innocent until proven guilty, right? So in hindsight, is incarceration before being found guilty fair?   Many people have differing opinions but the ball is in motion. Considering overcrowded prisons, taxpayer dollars being spent on trivial offenses, and those with more funds than other being in position to pay bail while others sit for order offenses, these are all reasons being used to substantiate the removal of cash bail. But is this enough to ensure communities they won’t be in danger?  Understanding neighborhoods are being plagued by violence, there is admittedly some comfort in hearing a crime suspect has been captured. Although due process must occur, knowing a potential violent person is unable to wreak havoc allows for a sliver of peace amongst the chaos.   There will never be a law that appeases all. Unfortunately, some outliers will be impacted in ways from which others are excluded. The hope is that the laws being passed are truly for the best interest of its constituents. But how can we be sure?  Let’s get into it. Check out Episode 92 and hear our take. Leave a comment, like, and share. Don’t forget to follow on IG @act2_thepodcast.
