A2TP EP 95 - DIGITAL TRAUMA

Listen Later

Trauma comes in many forms from many directions and manifests itself in a multitude of ways. We know of war stories from veterans who suffer from PTSD, victims of child abuse who live with lifelong trauma, and those who suffer trauma from grief. In this digital age of posting news events, has anyone considered the mental, emotional, and probable spiritual trauma that’s happening?

Sometimes without intention, we are exposed to imagery that leaves a long-lasting impression in our brains. Not always the good kind like that of a living family member. But more or less of a violent nature.  Very violent. What is it that triggers a person’s mind to not only watch but record a violent incident? And even further, why does one assume others are interested in witnessing the same event?

Regardless of blood, gore, vulgarity, or offensiveness, there is no limit to the availability of senseless crime, treachery, and other events our naked eyes should not have as much access to. Yet here we are.

What does it do to the brain to be shocked over and over and over again? How much is too much? What long-term effects will we be subject to after years of this candid exposure? I’m sure a scientist is somewhere doing the research. But as of today, we don’t have the answers. Hey we’re still having the conversation.
