Over the last week, conversations have resurfaced about friendship & what makes a true friend. This conversation came with the recent story of the apparent murder of Shanquella Robinson. If you haven’t been in the know, Shanquella was in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with a group of “friends” and didn’t make it back home to North Carolina. There’s lots of conjecture about what happened, but what’s known is the reason her travel mates said she is deceased doesn’t align with autopsy reports. This resurfacing conversation about friendship has conjured up conversations eerily similar to those conversations held when Kenneka Jenkins was also found dead after hanging with friends. So it begs the question, what about your friends? In 1992, T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chili, better known as TLC, asked a few questions for people to assess their friendships. What about your friends? Will they stand their ground? Will they let you down? Are they gonna be low down? Will they ever be around? Or will they turn their backs on you? Sheesh! Who’d think we have to think of such in depth questions when evaluating relationships with people who are supposed to add value to our lives? But if you don’t, you might find yourself in unlikely situations that could break your heart, your pockets, and/or your spirit. Friendship is a beautiful thing. Most of the people we have as friends are those we hand picked to be part of our journey in contrast to those relationships orchestrated by DNA. But often, the criteria we use to attach the label of “friend” may be a little screwed. Not everyone is a friend. And that’s ok. But what happens when a true friend is no longer? Is it jealousy, envy, lust, covetousness, or just bad character that turns a once friend to a stranger, or even worse, an enemy? Are people born with an underlying glitch that drives them to be disloyal? Or, does situations bring out the worse in people? No one knows or nay ever know a true answer, but we’re gonna talk about it. Check out Episode 97 and let us know your thoughts. Leave a comment and share with your friends and family.
