Its new's year Eve. This past yar has been a perculiar year. As the world continues to battle various stages in the second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic amid mixed feelings anchoring on both hope and fear, AbantuLives takes this moment to acknowledge you. You're here!
Welcome to AbantuLives, the podcast that explores the connections between holistic wellness at the intersections of history, culture and the systems and structures that impact and influence our everyday lived experiences. My name is Tendai. We believe that all human-beings should and can fulfill their potential and live with dignity, respect, equality and health.
This is episode number 5. Today we're simply taking time to check-in on you as 2020 comes to any end as well as THANK YOU for all your support and encouragemnt since our first podcast launch on the 3rd of November 2020.
2020 has been a challenging year. There's been a general sense of disconnection and fatigue as the year ends. As you take stock of the year and perhaps grief your losses, be it a loved one to death, illhealth, loss of a job or business, loss of self, loss of purpose or even more seriously the loss of the will to live. That you're here as still plodding along at best is worth a pause and big self-hug. Go on.. don't be shy, you're social distancing so perfectly safe to hug yourself. Thank you!
In as much as its been a year of pain, los and suffering for the most part, its also been a year of gain depending on how you choose to look or perceive life. Some people have welcomed new life and growth of family, others have married, engaged even if it meant a virtual ceremeony. Something you would not have possibly imagined as the year started. Other people are thriving in business and prospering, some in new jobs and others have ventured into new unknown terrains something they'd not otherwise have done had 2020 not unfolded in the way it has.
Some of the biggest gained l hear people mention are those intrinsic values that may have been lost over the years or diluted over time. Values of time itself, good health, loved ones, simplicity et cetera.
As we continue to process the trauma of 2020 that we can not yet allow ourselves to feel fully as a way of coping, our hope into 2021 is the awakening of truth, trust and healing both on as individuals and as a collective society.
One thing that's stuck out the most for me personally in 2020 is how difficult it is to know what is true and what to trust.
In a world were systems and structures have over centuries been a source of physical, environmental and psychological violence its hard to sift the wheat from the chaff. Life, truth and trust has been exploited for the benefit of a small number of people but we're so lost and confused we turn on each other as we do not know who to trust or what is true anymore.
We live in a modern society were information as a result of technology is easier to access. We should compared to our ancestors be in better spaces to make informed decisions or live more empowered lives, yet reality is discouraging.
Our hope in 2021 and beyond is for all of us to do our part however small lor trivial it may seem to you to reconnect to all life and mother earth. Perhaps then the truth may be become easier to access and identity.
THANK YOU and ALL THE BEST FOR 2021 ABANTU!!

What is language, communication and counselling? Why do we communicate? What role does the language we communicate in during a counselling session play towards narrative healing?. As far as we’re concerned “language” refers to the standardised written and spoken language. Communication scholars divide the “language” of communication into three primary categories, namely verbal, nonverbal and written communication. Counselling on the other hand according to Oxford dictionary is the provision of professional assistance and guidance in resolving personal or psychological problems. Why do we communicate?
