Fremont police say an off-leash dog attacked a smaller dog named Cheese on a walk, as its owner watched in horror. That smaller dog died days later, and now investigators are searching for the animal and the people responsible.

A house overrun with rats has been declared a public nuisance by the city of Irvine as neighbors grow frustrated with rodents roaming around freely.

Fremont police tracked the suspect to Walnut Creek -- when he was returning a rental car -- and arrested him. Police say the suspect is wanted in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, Solano and Yolo Counties for similar thefts occurring on school campuses.

"People have gone without for too long, not making payments to them for even another day is simply unacceptable," the federal judge said.

Fremont city officials cleared out a homeless encampment at Isherwood Park to make way for maintenance and vegetation removal and improve fire safety.
