In this episode, we look at Exodus 20:13 and Jesus’ deeper teaching in Matthew 5:21–22, exploring what it truly means when God says, “You shall not murder.” Moving beyond physical violence, we talk about anger, contempt, and the condition of the heart. In competitive environments where intensity runs high, this conversation challenges us to examine self-control, the way we speak about others, and how we reflect Christ in moments of frustration. Life matters. Not just in action, but in attitude.
Joined by Kaleb Wilson, FCA leader on the WVU men's golf team. He shares how the Lord has been working in him and through him during his time here, the fruits of that, and what kind of legacy he would like to leave.
Then, we dive into what it means to honor authority from a biblical perspective. Looking at Exodus 20:12, Romans 13:1-7, and 1 Peter 2:13-17, we unpack how honoring coaches, referees, and parents challenges the "I deserve" mentality so common in sport and culture. Kaleb shares his perspective on what it looks like to live with humility, respect, and Christ-like character in competitive spaces, and how choosing honor is powerful on and off the course.
In this episode, we sit down with James Sabin- FCA board member, WVU wrestling volunteer chaplain, and youth and family pastor at Kingdom EMC- for a wide-ranging conversation about discipleship, calling, and loving athletes and people well. James shares how he's seen God working through FCA, his heart behind leading Bible study with the WVU wrestling team, and why the goal of chaplaincy isn't performance-based faith, but reminding athletes that their value is not rooted in sport or success. Drawing from Acts 17:24, we reflect on how God has placed each of us where we are, as we are, and when we are, making the people around us our mission field, and inviting us to lead them with love.
Joined by Addie Dobson, an FCA leader on the WVU women's rowing team. She shares how her relationship with the Lord has completely shifted her perspective on what is important through her time at WVU. She has grown as a leader both for FCA and her team by leading a Bible study once a week, hoping to encourage her teammates and other athletes in their relationship with the Lord!
Next, we discuss why church is good, how Sabbath shapes our faith, and what it looks like to trust God enough to rest in a busy, performance-driven world. We explore the Sabbath through Exodus 20:8-11, focusing on rest, recovery, and trust in God. We talk about why worship on Sunday matters, what true rest looks like beyond a day off, and how passages like Colossians 2:16 and Galatians 4:8-12 remind us how God invites us to rest, and it is made for our good.
In this episode, we look at Exodus 20:7 and what it truly means to honor God’s name. Beyond avoiding it as a cuss word or a good-luck charm, we talk about how carrying God’s name is about representation. How our words, actions, and character reflect Christ in public spaces. As followers of Jesus, we’re invited to live in a way that points others to Him, understanding that bearing His name is both a responsibility and a privilege.
In this episode, we turn to Exodus 20:4–6 to talk honestly about idols and what happens when the world becomes ultimate. We unpack how good things can slowly take God’s place, and why God calls us to something deeper than performance or identity in worldly things. This conversation challenges us to examine what we’re living for and invites us back to worshiping the One who deserves our whole hearts.
In this episode, we dive deeper into the Ten Commandments, focusing on the first commandment and the heart behind it. Through Exodus 20 and Matthew 6, we reflect on what it means to truly place God first. Examining what we seek, what captures our attention, and where our gaze is fixed. From Adam and Eve to our own lives today, we talk about how an intentional posture of seeking Christ shapes our priorities, desires, and relationship with God.
In this episode, we step into the Old Testament, beginning with Exodus 19–20 and the Ten Commandments. While the law can feel intimidating, we unpack how it ultimately points us to our need for God and toward the coming Messiah. We talk about the difference between outward obedience and inward transformation, how grace leads us to the law, not the other way around, and why understanding the Old Testament is essential to fully grasp the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Continuing the conversation from Episode 3, we turn to Luke 2:8 and the powerful moment when the birth of the Savior is announced. Not to kings or crowds, but to shepherds. We unpack why God chose them, what this reveals about His heart, and how we’re called to keep our eyes up, treasuring what God has already done rather than constantly waiting for signs and wonders. Like Mary, we reflect on how to hold these truths in our hearts and live in awe of the Savior who came for all.
In this episode of Above the Noise, we dive into Luke 1 & 2 to explore God’s faithfulness and the incredible story of Jesus’ birth. From Mary’s obedience to the joy of the shepherds, we reflect on what it means to trust God’s promises in the middle of uncertainty. Join us as we unpack how this story of hope, humility, and God-with-us can inspire our hearts, relationships, and faith today.
