Sheikh Zoud addresses the role Iblis plays in the life of a Muslim.
Two reasons the angels were commanded to make sajdah to Adam a.s. :-
Adam a.s. was honoured by Allah (his ruh was honoured)
Adam a.s. possessed intellect, i.e. the fact that man is able to learn.
Allah asked the angels to prostrate to Adam a.s. thus exposing his jealousy of Adam. He refused to prostrate. He was then questioned by Allah what prevented him from making sajdah. So you can see before Allah cursed him Allah asked Iblis what prevented him from making sajdah. Thus it is with Allah Who does not remove a civilisation without first giving them an opportunity. Iblis is being reprimanded for delaying obeying a command of his Creator.
Iblis refusal was steeped in pride. That he made of fire was better than Adam a.s. made from clay. How many of us use the same analogy that we are better than our brothers? Sadly such is the state of the ummah today.
Now note that Iblis accepted Allah's role as Al-Khaliq but Iblis refused to accept Allah's creation. And so Iblis is kicked out of Paradise a place where only the humble abide.
This is why the prophet said an ounce of pride will stop us entering Jannah because that's a quality of Iblis.
