Bobby's Old Time Radio Shows

Academy Award Radio Program: Kitty Foyle, April 6, 1946

Listen Later

Sponsored by the E.R. Squibb & Sons pharmaceutical company, this was a bold attempt to bring the great movie stars to radio in shortened versions of great movies and literature. Each show included at least one Acadamy Award winner or nominee, and sometimes more than one, with each receiving $4,000 for their performance. In addition to paying each star, the company had to pay the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences $16,000 every week for the use of their name in the show's title. The show first aired every Saturday evening at 7pm until July when the show was moved to Wednesday evenings at 10pm. Only 39 episodes were produced in 1946 before the sponsor dropped the program, and all thirty nine have been preserved, and are available here.
