In the last episode of the Business Operating Systems series, host Charlie Malouf rejoins guests Carl Hillesland and Stacey McCormick as they take a deep dive into the implementation objections, the biggest obstacles, the biggest wins, and the key elements of Mr. Mo.
The discuss the reasons for tracking behaviors down to the individual HFC (Home Furnishings Consultant) level and the break point difference that has been proven with the tracking of 25 specific behaviors and actions that results in a difference of $17,000 in sales per week per HFC. They discussed how it is better to do something FOR people, but even better if you can do it WITH them. Through consistency, through love, through accountability, through modeling and messaging, through P2I (Position To Impact), and through continual training to show them that it works.
In discussing the biggest wins with Mr. Mo, they cite continuous improvement and leadership development.
They unpack the various meeting cadences (weekly, quarterly, and annual) and explain the core elements of each. Over 60% of the weekly meeting time is pegged to solving root issue problems, whereas setting of Rocks is a big component of the quarterly and annual meetings along with strategic planning, vision casting, and team health.
Carl explains that Mr. Mo provides the framework to solving problems as they're surfaced through the IDS (Identify, Discuss, Solve) method. And Carl goes on to describe the tools that they're using to implement Mr. Mo that help them with their weekly measurables and keep their Rocks on track.
In looking ahead in 2024, they discussed getting better at Coaching vs Correcting and at Decentralization (individualized Empowerment).
Stacey discusses the ability to achieve accountability with urgency without creating stress and anxiety. He discusses the power of redundancy that comes from the benefits of refining a system where we know what we're doing and are working to improve upon it instead of trying to figure out what to do.
The episode concludes with discussions on how Mr. Mo plays well (or integrates well) with other operating systems and how we can deploy an operating system at the Company level focused on leadership training, the great game of business, our Memory Makers, and pursuing our collective purpose of furnishing life's best memories.
