God’s plan for supernatural rest is sabbath.

Sabbath means to cease.

Exodus 16:23-30 (NIV)  //  He said to them, “This is what the Lord commanded: ‘Tomorrow is to be a day of sabbath rest, a holy sabbath to the Lord. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.’” 24 So they saved it until morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it. 25 “Eat it today,” Moses said, “because today is a sabbath to the Lord. You will not find any of it on the ground today. 26 Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.” 27 Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather it, but they found none. 28 Then the Lord said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commands and my instructions? 29 Bear in mind that the Lord has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. If you work on the Sabbath, God’s just not going to help you.

Sabbath is a commandment.

Exodus 20:8-11  //  “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

We don’t obey the commandments to be saved, we obey them to be blessed.

Consequences and Blessings

Sabbath is a witness.

Anyone who desecrates it is to be put to death; those who do any work on that day must be cut off from their people. 15 For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death. 16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. 17 It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’”

How do you get the Egypt out of you?

Philippians 2:12-13 (NLT)  //  Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Romans 8:5-6 (NLT)  //  Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

Right relationships are the key.

Romans 8:11 MSG //  It stands to reason, doesn’t it, that if the alive and present God who raised Jesus from the dead moves into your life, he’ll do the same thing in you that he did in Jesus, bringing you alive to himself? When God lives and breathes in you, you are delivered from that dead life. With his Spirit living in you, your body will be as alive as Christ’s!

There has to be more!

Promise: an offer with a guaranteed result.

When life doesn’t make sense, hold onto the promises of God.

Healing

1 Peter 2:24  //  “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

I need to understand God’s promises.

Numbers 23:19 (NLT)  //  God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?

Every promise has a premise.

Tried to teach a child a math concept, but instead threw the math book across the room and screamed “I HATE MATH! THE INTERNET CAN TEACH YOU NOW!”

There are no perfect parents, but we serve a perfect God.

John 3:16  //  For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Isaiah 11:1  //  A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

God’s plans are not thwarted by human imperfection.

We must remember that our children are among the "others" Jesus called us to love.
