    I was born for this!
Ephesians 1:16-18  //  I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people

Ephesians 2:8-10  //  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:8  //  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith
Grace is God’s power in you to do what you can’t do on your own.
Ephesians 2:9  //  not by works, so that no one can boast.
Grace is opposed to earning, but not to effort.
We are not saved BY works, but we are saved FOR works.
Ephesians 2:10  //  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

    1. You don’t think we have any needs.
    2. You did it before and hated it.
    3. You don’t see yourself the way God sees you.
    1. Every Christian is a MINISTER
1 Peter 2:9  //  But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
    2. Every task is IMPORTANT
    Just
1 Corinthians 12:27  //  Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
    3. Every person is UNIQUE and NEEDED
God’s design in me reveals His destiny for me.
1 Corinthians 12:4-8 (MSG)  //  God’s various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various ministries are carried out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various expressions of power are in action everywhere; but God himself is behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful.

John 8:31-36  //  To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” 34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)  //  God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Philippians 2:12-13 (NLT)  //  Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
    Body, Soul, & Spirit
    Body - The Physical
Soul - The mind, will, and emotions
Spirit - The part of us that is like God.
    1. Victory over sin.
Sin: What I do to myself.
Wounds: What others did to me.
Romans 7:21-25  //  So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
    2. Healing from wounds.
Ephesians 4:26-27 (NLT)  //  And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
    3. Authority over the enemy.
Ephesians 6:10-12  //  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Romans 8:1-2 (NLT)  //  So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
Romans 8:5-6 (NLT)  //  Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
    Right relationships are the key.
Proverbs 28:13  //  He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
God will not heal what we conceal.
1 John 1:9  //  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
James 5:16  //  Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

Psalm 16:11  //  You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

    Great White Throne Judgement
Matthew 15:1-3, 6-9  //  Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”
3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?
6 …Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. 25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ 28 “The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’ 31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

  • For Heaven’s Sake – Come & See Confidence
How can we care about what Heaven cares about?
    Excuses
Matthew 28:19-20  //  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Luke 19:10  //  For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
Lie: My faith is a private matter.
Lie: Imposing my beliefs on others isn’t love
Lie: It’s not my job or my gifting
Lie: They’re already too far gone
Lie: I will be called a hypocrite
Lie: I don’t know what to say
We don’t defend the things we love.
Luke 10:25-37  //  On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ 19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ 21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’ 22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’ 23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”

  • For Heaven’s Sake – Carry His Presence
1 John 2:27  //  As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.
We carry and cultivate the anointing.
How much of the presence of God do I carry in my life?
Do we lean on our ability or His?
Exodus 28:2  //  Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor.
Dignity and Honor are things you put on.
Exodus 28:36-37  //  Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD. Fasten a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban.
The first thing the priest put on was a gold turban – a crown with a huge gold plate on it written “Set apart holy unto the Lord”
    1. The Crown of Holiness over my Mind.
    Integrity
    3 TYPES OF MAN:
Natural man – one without God
Spiritual man – thinks about God
Carnal man – mixture between the two
    “Holy to the Lord”
My thoughts have to be holy
To make a difference, we have to be different.
Exodus 28:29-30  //  Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the LORD.
    2. The Breastpiece of Relationships over my Heart.
You are where you are because of the people in your life
We must have a pure heart to carry the anointing
Few things affect the anointing in my life more than my feelings about other people.
Who do you need to forgive?
Exodus 28:39  //  Weave the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen.
    Breathes
    3. The Undergarment of Rest over my Life.
    Sabbath
Exodus 28:31, 33-35  //  Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth… Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them. The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe. Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he comes out.
    4. The Garment of Praise in my Spirit.
Isaiah 61:1-3  //  The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
    to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
    the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
    and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
The key to joy is gratitude.
Psalm 100:4  //  Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

How do we care about what Heaven cares about?
    1. Men can be dense
    2. You can be in a moment and miss it
What was the Gospel message Jesus came to proclaim? The Reality of the Kingdom of God
Mark 1:14-15  //  After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Luke 8:1  //  After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.
Luke 9:1-2  //  When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
Acts 1:3  //  He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
Acts 28:31  //  He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!

Obeying God is only easy when a person's own desires match God's.
Obeying God is only easy when a person's own timing matches God's.
John 14:15  //  “If you love me, keep my commands.”
John 14:23  //  “Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching…”
Those who want to be mature in Christ have a desire to obey Him.
Our way is to disobey, but God’s way is a way of obedience.
1 Samuel 15:2-3  //  “...This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
    Obedience is an Opportunity
1 Samuel 15:3  //  Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
Time doesn’t diminish sin in the sight of God.
Acts 13:22  //  After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’
Obedience is an opportunity to align with God.
Begin to view every act of obedience as an opportunity to align more closely with God.
    Obedience is 100%
1 Samuel 15:20-21  //  “But I did obey the Lord,” Saul said. “I went on the mission the Lord assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king. The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the Lord your God at Gilgal.”
1 Samuel 15:22  //  But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
Worship is good, but obedience is better.
Anything less than full obedience misses the mark of God's calling for our lives.
Delayed and/or incomplete obedience is disobedience.
Begin to actually do what God has called you to wholeheartedly and completely.
Obedience is a matter of the Heart
1 Samuel 15:11  //  “I regret that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions.” Samuel was angry, and he cried out to the Lord all that night.
1 Samuel 15:35  //  Until the day Samuel died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned for him. And the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.
Obedience isn’t just about our outward actions; it’s about the inward condition of our heart.
Begin to keep a close check on your heart.
What is it that God has called you to do?

  • When Your Way Isn’t Working – An Unhurried Life
Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)  //  “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
    Hurry & Worry
John 10:10  //  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Matthew 6:34  //  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Meris - A part or division.
Worry is the failure to be here.
James 4:13-15  //  Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
    Our goal: Be FULLY PRESENT.
"Being in a hurry. Getting to the next thing without fully entering the thing in front of me. I cannot think of a single advantage I’ve ever gained from being in a hurry. But a thousand broken and missed things, tens of thousands, lie in the wake of all the rushing…. Through all that haste I thought I was making up time. It turns out I was throwing it away." – Ann Voskamp

    Hurry Sickness
    Hurry and Love are Incompatible
If we want the life of Jesus, we must adopt the lifestyle of Jesus.
Luke 5:16  //  But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
    3 MPH God
Mark 6:30-31 //  The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
Mark 6:45-46  //  Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.
John 11:1-6  //  Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) 3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” 4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days
Luke 19:5  //  “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”
Mark 10:32-34  //  They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”

  • When Your Way Isn’t Working – Control vs. Surrender
“You can have control or you can have growth but you can’t have both.” – Craig Groeschel
Galatians 2:20 (NIV)  //  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
A Christian can’t live a life pleasing to God while also fighting for control
    Relationship control
    Financial control
    Emotional control
Matthew 26:39, 42 (NIV)  //  Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”
    NEVERTHELESS
Surrender is the answer to our need for control
The process of our transformation takes place at the point of our need/weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:19 (NIV)  //  But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
How do we surrender? We wait on God.
Waiting on God is an action based on confident assurance of grace to come.
Waiting on God is internal rest that results in courageous action.
