The big question – who is the ME that I want to BE?

How do we change? Outside in or Inside Out. Do something different or be someone different. Improve the old you or become a new you.

Romans 6:4  //  We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Who is the me that I want to be?

We overestimate what we can do in the short-term and underestimate what we can do in the long-term.

1 Kings 19:19-21  //  So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. 20 Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. “Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,” he said, “and then I will come with you.”

“Go back,” Elijah replied. “What have I done to you?” 21 So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant.

1. An invitation to a higher calling.

2. An invitation to deeper surrender.

3. An invitation to greater things.

John 14:12  //  Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

You cannot step into your new life until you first set fire to whatever is tethering you to your old life.

Every year we set new goals – to change the past, try something new, or do something different. But if we’re honest, the new year can start to sound like a broken record. We want to lose weight, make more money, get organized. We think if we can just work it harder, make it better, and make it faster, we’ll be stronger.

Maybe we’re trying to change the wrong thing, because the common denominator or every part of your life is you. What if this year wasn’t about what you’ve accomplished, but about who you are? This year, we’re starting with the man in the mirror.
