  • Issa Lopez – Founder of Issa Leo – Men’s Fashion Brand – S02E36
"Living as a Muslim is a good life. You live in good boundaries. You don't harm others and you take care of others..." - Issa Lopez

Issa Lopez was really interesting. Born in Grenada, Spain and then grew up in Mexico. Travelled to England to learn English and then fell in love with Cape Town. Growing up he was obsessed about patching and mixing fabrics & material together. Who knew he would one day be showcased on the SA Fashion Week platform as Issa Leo.

Issa reminded us about many lessons. By the way we bought and tried a couple of his caps and T-shirts - really great quality and so comfortable. We visited his beautiful small boutique store in Cape Town CBD too.

    Enjoy!

  • Saaleha Idrees Bamjee – Food Photographer – Writer – Poet – Idea Girl – S02E35
"Today's youth are so positive and so aware of the important stuff. They so woke." - Saaleha Idrees Bamjee

Born in 1983 in the small town of Azaadville on Joburg’s West Rand, Saaleha now lives closer to the city’s engineered skylines working as a freelance writer, photographer and incidental designer.  Khalil was stuck in JHB traffic again for this interview traveling thousands of miles...Ok not really thousands but you know what we mean...It was a pleasure officially meeting Saaleha and her talking about success, writing, photography and she also recited a couple of her poems...

She gave us tips on how to shoot a self-portrait and do a stop-motion video...

Enjoy this one! Feedback is our oxygen...

  • Fatima Asmal – Founder of Institute for Learning and Motivation – South Africa (ILM-SA) – S02E34
"I wanted to be a cricket commentator and follow the Pakistani cricket team around the world" - Fatima Asmal

Obviously that didn't pan out because Allah had better and more rewarding plans for Fatima Asmal - Alhamdullillah. It was really great to meet her. We have been in contact for about 10+ years but seeing her, her mom and her adorable son was heart-warming to say the least.

Fatima is an open book. She's courageous, daring and so caring. She tells us about how she started Ilm-SA and a beautiful story about empowering others (whether Muslim or not-yet).

Some gratitude advice, single parenting advice and as she says... "just go with the flow"

Enjoy this one! Feedback is our oxygen...

  • Shubnum Khan – South African Author – Artist – Freelance Writer – S02E33
"I would hop around and make up a lot of stories in my head when I was a kid." - Shubnum Khan

Shubnum stuck out like a "sore thumb" in school already. She speaks about her school life and University, as well as taking us through her process of writing her first book called "Onion Tears".

"At the end of the day. We all the same. We go through the same pain, same fears, same grief. I write to connect people."

Shubnum is also fascinated by people's memories and how we all see the world. She also believes from the heart that she can do much better in terms of writing and art. (Her best is yet to come!). We loved Shubnum's vulnerability and her story. We know you will enjoy it too.

  • Muhammad Zakaria Suleman – Advocate Durban Bar – Former Law Clerk Constitutional Court – S02E32
"Speak your mind. One day it will be OK!" - Muhammad Zakaria Suleman

We kicking off our first episode from Durban with Muhammad Zakaria. He speaks about 'clerking' for the Judge of the Constitutional Court but before that he studied Architecture? huh!

We asked him whether South African law is tight and more progressive than other countries. The importance of not only breaking social boundaries within the South African Muslim community, but also intellectual boundaries. Muhammad Zakaria speaks about his 'successes' and dealings with Refugees/Schools and how it impacted him and his career.

He goes deep about excellence, ego and gratitude. You going to find this episode very interesting (they all are!)

We thrive you on your feedback!

  • Khadija Patel – Editor-in-Chief – Mail & Guardian – S02E31 – EXTENDED INTERVIEW
"I am just a simple girl from Mayfair..." - Khadija Patel

Khalil could not leave! It was more than 1.5 hours of a beautiful conversation and as you could imagine it was so difficult to edit this. Khadija starts by telling us about her school teacher who inspired her to read/write. How she started with the Daily Vox to becoming the Editor-in-Chief of the Mail & Guardian (interesting story). Such a humble human-being, Khadija defines success and you know what? She was singled out by Former US President Barack Obama! (funny story).

This episode is an extended one as we fielded questions from our subscribers Zaheer, Wasfeeya, Shanaaz, Iman, Hasanain, MJ Khan, Saleem and Fatima Jakoet.

  • Saliegh Salaam – Portfolio Manager – Old Mutual Investment Group – S02E30
"Rightfully, as a Muslim community we are extremely obsessive about eating halaal and that is important. However from an investment or financial product consumption perspective, we unfortunately not at that level yet." - Saliegh Salaam

This interview with Saliegh was fascinating. We were glued to our seats and wanted more. In fact our community poured in questions, via different platforms, prior to this interview for shariah compliant advice and he delivered indeed. Check out the Facebook live interview here.

He is the lead Fund manager and champion of Shari’ah products (equity and multi-asset) since 2007. In addition, Saliegh is also the lead fund manager on Old Mutual High Yield Opportunity Fund (Managed volatility) and co-fund manager on Managed Alpha Funds.  The liaison for Shari’ah board and Shari’ah product partners & a member of the boutique Exco and Sales committee.

20 years of financial markets experience encompassing the entire investments value chain, from dealing, equity analysis, portfolio management and leadership. He is a mentor, husband, father and he can go deep from a philosophical perspective and we loved it. No spoiler alerts.

P.S - Saliegh will be a speaker at our Cape Town Leadership Conference at the Baxter Theatre on the 30th September 2017. You may purchase your tickets here.

  • Mehboob Bawa – Actor – MC – Speaker – Presenter – Cameraman – Singer – S02E29
"To me, what I am most grateful for is family. It's all about my family and sharing the most valuable moments with them" - Mehboob Bawa

This interview was one of the most inspiring, joyful and tearful ones. Mixed emotions of gratitude, love and sadness. We saw a side of Mehboob that most people usually don't see. He is extremely soft-hearted, down to earth and a cry baby. Haha!

He cried about 5 times including 1 fake crying session (blame Zaheer). Mehboob tells us how he started his career in the late 1980's and how he gained so much knowledge throughout the years, to where he is now...

Guess what he enjoys the most, as he wears many hats...?

    Enjoy!
