Ace Your Shadows: Interview with Caroline McGrath

Listen Later

Today I have the most wonderful conversation with one my favorite therapists of all time!  Not only is she adorable, cool, love the beach as much as me, and funny as hell, she also specializes in helping clients work through their shadow and begin feeling grounded and more present and good in their lives.  She talks to us today about how you can change your way of thinking and learn to react well to your triggers and find solutions to face your triggers with calm and reasonable behavior. She also explains how social media is impacting our children and gives tips to help moms navigate the field.  She also has some fabulous teen and Mom groups that should be mandatory for all of us as we move into the holidays, so that we can approach this sometimes triggering time with fun, ease and joy.  This is a must listen!!

All about Caroline: The ocean is my happy place and where I reconnect and rejuvenate. One of my self-care practices is getting back to Maui and the Hawaiian Islands at least once a year. This allows my soul to reconnect with the island and the Aloha I discovered and enveloped years ago when I planted my roots in Maui and lived out my 20s. After years of traveling and living in different states and climates, I planted my roots in Oregon and have been here for the past 16 years. There is no denying the Oregon coast and the Hawaiian Islands are both majestic and healing in their own unique, breathtaking, and beautiful ways. I often tell my clients to find a place or activity that feeds their souls and revisit that space as often as I can. Whether that is physically, mentally, emotionally, or visually. Or all of the above! I love spontaneous excursions and exploring new places and faces with my partner, and our two love-filled, wild & free, compassionate & courageous sweet boys, our much-loved puppy, and dear friends. We all enjoy taking time out of the daily responsibilities of life every so often to enjoy a mental health day together. If you haven’t incorporated mental health days into your life/work/balance routine… get started now! We all need mental health days. Children, teens, parents, professionals… all of us! Take one, you won’t regret it. Finding the balance between helping others and self-care is where I flow and continue to grow. As most of us know, self-care isn’t always easy, especially for caregivers and those in the helping field. But, it’s essential to show up for others feeling grounded and present. I am always learning and building upon my self-care practices so I can continue to support others and help them connect with their inner harmony.
