What if it’s communicating a need your child has that you’re not getting? What if you listened to that communication in a way that allowed you to change some things that would make life better for everyone concerned? X-Men kids function so differently, and the way we respond to them needs to be tailored to who they are and what they require in order to do well. In my experience, many cognitive and behavioral interventions that work with other kids don’t work well with these children. So, we need to discover what does work. All kids are unique, and they respond in different ways, but I’ve found several triggers for upsets that many kids have in common. These include frustration about how slow everything is moving, being “bossed” or told what to do, not having a choice, not being acknowledged, not being listened to, and being judged or criticized. X-Men kids also have upsets and outbursts that express other people’s anger.
