Whether you are looking to buy a business, run a business or grow a business there are only a few ways that you can ever find yourself “getting stuck”.
What "getting stuck" really boils down to is you running into some challenges that you perceive as stopping you from achieving the goals you want to achieve.
If you master this skill set of identifying and overcoming these challenges, it will enable you to look for these challenges and see them as opportunities for potential acquisition candidates.
Let's break down the fundamentals of business in general.
You need to do three critical things with clients in any business: find them, convert them, and keep them as your client.
That's it!
So when you are looking at any business, you need to immediately look for those 3 steps and understand how they are currently doing them.
For example, if you have a lot of leads, whether it's from Facebook, Twitter or Google, but you can’t convert them, the majority of your effort and resources need to go into figuring out why you are not converting them.
Perhaps your messaging is off, your branding sucks, or they are just not interested in whatever you have to sell. Being able to identify and ask these questions is key to adapting and overcoming.
Contrary, maybe you have a tough time finding the right people, but once you get in front of them, they convert like crazy, in this case, you need to spend your time and effort figuring out how to get in front of the right people more consistently.
It is super important to understand that being methodical and rational in your systems and processes is key to building a solid, valuable business. If you are flying blind and bouncing from thing to thing trying to figure something out, then any potential buyer will look at that and just see an unorganized mess.
When you are trying to figure out what works try and be like a scientist, “I have a hypothesis that if we change our ad messaging from X to Y, it will increase conversions” try that and document everything, only then can you accurately compare results and start to get closer to what works.
How do you solve this?
Certainty, Clarity and Focus you need to know where you are going and what you are going to get there. Commit to taking certain actions day in and day out and then look back to see your results.
You also need to be in touch with your mission, your deep understanding of why you do what you do and what impact you want to make. When you are clear on this, clarity and focus are byproducts.
If you don’t have that certainty or clarity in your vision, go find somebody who does and does whatever it takes to be around them. When you can see this trait in other people, it becomes easier to bring it out in yourself. We are who we hang out with, after all.
I was recently fortunate enough to befriend a very successful person who has excelled particularly well in business and wealth creation. He took his first company public in the 1980s and eventually reached billionaire status.
These are some of the key lessons he taught me.
If you have followed me for any length of time you will know that my core message is that business success is quicker, easier and more likely, if you decide to buy instead of build.
This is equally relevant to you if you are just starting out or you already have a business and you are looking to grow it by acquiring competitors or other complementary businesses to add and grow to your existing business.
Here I will discuss why I believe this and am so passionate about it.
The perspective that you take when looking at the world and your surroundings literally determines everything in your life.
Think of it like looking through glasses, if you have rose tinted glasses, everything takes on a shade of red.
Similarly, if you look at everything through a positive lens, guess what? Things will turn out a lot more positive. The same is true if you have a negative viewpoint.
So with that being said, here is a combination of the absolute best advice I have ever received when it comes to having the right perspective.
Very simply, we help anyone who wants to buy a business, buy a business.
In other words, we are helping future CEOs become the leader of their new business and ultimately, become the CEO of their life in the process, or existing CEOs buy additional businesses to leverage growth by acquisitions.
If you follow me it is likely because you fall into one of those categories.
Moving forward into 2022 we are going to be focusing on bringing like minded people together to collectively advance our businesses and lives.
The communities will be
#1. Investors: One of our goals for 2022 is to raise a capital fund to deploy into profitable and established small businesses that are run by our next community, the CEOs.
We came across so many deals that it was a no brainer for us to put together and feed a pool of investors who are looking to diversify their investments.
Every month we are going to conduct Q&A calls, with guest speakers, mentors and case studies for investors to network and grow.
#2. CEOs: This group is already well established and we will continue to host our bi-weekly Q&A calls.
#3. Scouts: The third community we are establishing in 2022 to support the overall vision is our Acquisitions.com Scout program. Scouts are people who maybe are brand new to the world of acquisitions and want to start out by just getting their feet wet and going through the process with the support of us and our communities.
Scouts will be tasked with finding deals and given all the tools, scripts and softwares to help them succeed. In the past we have paid multiple 6 figures as referral fees if the business makes sense, so there is a great opportunity to learn while doing, while also making money in the process.
We covered all this and more exciting developments in our Live M&A Strategy Call you can check out here.
