Residents in Southeast Queensland have now been told to prepare for tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Acting Commissioner of the Queensland Police Service Shane Chelepy is the disaster coordinator for Queensland and he told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, " It's not something that might happen. All the modelling is showing that it'll track towards the coast."

"The only thing over the next day or so that will firm up will be exactly where it crosses."
