In 2 Timothy 3, Paul warns Timothy about the last days being days of immense difficulty. We are currently living in the last days, the post Jesus resurrection era. In 2 Timothy 4, Paul writes his last words to Timothy, urging him to fulfill his ministry just as he himself has finished the race, living a life of sharing the Gospel, in full stride as he approaches his death. He reminds Timothy to be truth-oriented, that there is a real spiritual enemy out there who seeks to derail us in our faith, and that there is a great reward at the end for all believers that God promises.

The Day of Atonement alluded to in the Old Testament points forward to the cross, which means that everyday we have full access to God and his grace!

Through different heroes of faith and their stories, we learn that the unseen things are often more important than the things that are seen, immediate, and experientially pressing.

In Hebrews 12, Christian life is analogized as a race that requires endurance to push through but an eternal payout that makes it all worth it. Life is short. Death is certain. Eternity is long. Therefore, it is worth it to lay aside everything that hinders us from running this Christian race well in this life for the eternal reward awaiting us later!

In Matthew 6, Jesus offers us a way to deal with the anxieties that we face. He helps see life outside of our immediate realities, reminds us that love is a better fuel to run on than anxiety, reminds us that anxiety is unproductive, and that God exists and knows everything that we need.
