March 15, 2020Al A Radical TransformationAl reminds me of the butterfly metaphors that we use to describe someone who has visibly gone through a massive transformation in their lives and come out the other side a changed person. When he was younger he spent so much time isolating himself that when it came time to make friends and be social, he was so unsure of himself. Al had to put himself though a radical transformation where he searched inwardly and outwardly for things that felt he could connect with to become a truer version of himself. He became addicted to self improvement and growing. He put in the hard work and from the sound of his story his life has transformed and he has taken flight. Check out Al’s YouTube and a link to a podcast that he recommends that helped him figure out “life’s rules” because as he puts it "If you don’t know the rules, you can’t play the game”. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-art-of-charm/id212382281 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKiqkrts7V9ivl19PtdgVtg/featured...more32minPlay

March 14, 2020Nasir When dreams transition and fear fadesFrom the age 6 Nasir had a voice inside that said something was different and it scared him. The fear came from the fact that the world on the outside was not reflecting who Nasir knew he was from the inside. In his heart Nasir was a man, but his cousin was telling him to get ready to grow breasts when you grow up — because Nasir had the organs of a female. The shattering feeling of the world not recognizing your inner voice and that your dreams of being a man might not become the reality is a haunting premise that can break a heart. Maybe it was from experiencing fear, a different view of life that in his later years gave Nasir a voice and material to channel artwork that fuels his creativity but again Nasir had to make a choice — to go through a transition with injecting testosterone and risk losing your singing voice and maybe lose the thing that brings you peace and safety or to not go through with the transition and not honor the inner voice of who you are. This is Nasir’s beautiful story of transition and Nasir’s amazing voice.
