A huge victory in Vancouver last Friday steadies the ship for The Nine Stripes and with six regular season games remaining, the battle for the title is intensifying!
It was an unlikely lad - Nyal Higgins, who has been superb since returning to the lineup in the draw with Forge a few weeks ago - who grabbed the game-winning goal after just four minutes, as the team dug deep to keep a crucial clean-sheet. That was despite losing centre-back Noah Abatneh early in the first half due to injury and Elijah Adekugbe forced to drop deep.
It was a fifth shut-out of the season for goalkeeper Thomas Vincensini, who was also named Allstate Goalkeeper of the Month this week: the second time he's claimed the award this term.
We get the post-game thoughts of Head Coach Benjamín Mora and Elijah Adekugbe, while OneSoccer's Adam Jenkins joins in the second half of the show to run the rule over York United's championship credentials and the new-found optimism at the club this season.

There was some slight disappointment in the team's last outing as Cavalry FC came to town and played the role of party poopers to perfection.
The 2-1 defeat was a competitive battle, and despite The Nine Stripes laying siege to the Cavs goal for the final twenty minutes, they couldn't find that elusive equalizer.
Still, Head Coach Benjamín Mora remained defiant in the aftermath of the game, telling reporters that one result would not define the recent successes. We hear from him in this episode, and from Max Ferrari too - who celebrated his 100th appearance for the club. A special achievement for him, and Brian Wright also, who racked up his 100th game for a Canadian Premier League team.
Our special guest this week is CanPL.ca's Charlie O'Connor-Clarke, who takes some time to recognize the contributions made to the league by those two players in recent years. He also goes in-depth on York United's form under Mora, and the crucial upcoming derby clash with Forge FC.

What a gritty and hard-fought win on the road last weekend against Valour FC in Winnipeg.
It was a tense battle and scoreless , and when Thomas Vincensini make a dramatic penalty save in the second-half, The Nine Stripes were still in the fight. With the game in the balance, Head Coach Benjamín Mora made an attacking switch and brought Austin Ricci off the bench. And it proved an astute move.
When Vincensini pulled a cross out of the sky and found Babouli with a quick throw, the counter attack was very much on. Just nine seconds later, the ball was in the back of the net as Ricci tapped home from Brian Wright's precise pass.
The three points saw York jump to the top of the table and after 10 games under Mora, the team carries some big dreams.
After some post-game reaction from Winnipeg, Eoin sits down with Mora to discuss the campaign so far and just how his process and identity is transferring to the squad.

The trip to Vancouver FC proved slightly frustrating as The Nine Stripes seemed set for a solid away win after Mo Babouli netted once again early in the second half.
But, in what was a tight and tense contest, York United surprisingly conceded a last-gasp equalizer and the game finished 1-1. Still, they brought a hard-earned point to Toronto after gruelling back-to-back trips to the other side of the country.

The run continues! Six games in charge for Benjamín Mora and there's been four wins and one draw.
The latest victory came in the notoriously difficult surroundings of ATCO Field in Calgary where The Nine Stripes conjured just their second ever win in 12 visits thanks to a magnificent free-kick from Mo Babouli and a first ever professional goal from 16-year-old Shola Jimoh, who became the second-youngest CPL goalscorer in history when he tapped home following Brian Wright's superb dazzling dribble and perfect cross.
The three points consolidated second place in the table and kept momentum going ahead of another road assignment this weekend in Vancouver.
We hear from Babouli, Jimoh and Max Ferrari while Mora sits down for a big conversation with host Eoin O'Callaghan to discuss the recent results, how the process is all coming together and sheds some light on the club's new mystery signing.

It's been an impressive run since Benjamín Mora took over as York United FC boss: five games, just one defeat.
The latest victory came against Halifax Wanderers at York Lions Stadium last weekend: the team's fifth on home soil in the 2024 campaign. In the process, The Nine Stripes have climbed to second in the Canadian Premier League table and can proudly boast of possessing the best home record of any Toronto sports team right now - better than the Argos, way better than the Blue Jays and way, way better than Toronto FC.
Eoin O'Callaghan looks back on the 2-1 win with analysis from Mora and midfielder Juan Cordova, who grabbed his second of the season against the Wanderers.
Eoin also chats to GM/President Ricardo Pasquel about the recent high-profile announcement of an official partnership with the iconic Club de Futbol Monterrey of Liga MX. There's also a little tease of some transfer activity that the club are in the midst of.

There's a new Head Coach in town.
His name is Benjamín Mora. And his mission is to bring silverware to The Nine Stripes.
He's done it plenty of times already in an extremely impressive career, racking up nine titles during his stint in Malaysia. His success with Johor Darul Ta'zim led to his return to native Mexico and a high-profile job with Atlas in Liga MX.
He brings a big reputation to the club and he was officially unveiled earlier this week. The entire episode is dedicated to Mora's arrival: we bring you inside his first press conference, while Eoin O'Callaghan sits down with him to understand more about his process, his journey and his first impressions of the squad.
We also look ahead to a big day on Sunday, June 9th. As well as being Mora's first game as Head Coach, it's also the club's Pride Match. We have a special pre-game Pride Panel Discussion at 4pm at York Lions Stadium on the theme of 'Sport and Sexuality in 2024', hosted/moderated by Devin Heroux from CBC Sports and featuring Adriana Cavarra, GM of Peaches Sports Bar in downtown Toronto and Robyn Pearson, Social Media Manager with The GIST. A transitional phase for The Nine Stripes with Mauro Eustáquio having stepped up as interim Head Coach following the departure of Martin Nash.
But, Eustáquio oversaw a superb first victory on home soil as York United FC made it three straight wins at York Lions Stadium. The 2-1 result against HFX Wanderers came after an excellent first half, with Austin Ricci conjuring a spectacular opening goal before Dennis Salanovic doubled the lead.

A strange week for York United FC.
On Tuesday it was announced that Martin Nash would no longer be continuing as Head Coach of the club and with the next league fixture set for Friday night at York Lions Stadium, Mauro Eustáquio will take interim charge.
We hear from GM and President Ricardo Pasquel and get his take on the decision, the process and what the remainder of the 2024 campaign will look like for The Nine Stripes. There's also an emotional interview with Mauro Eustáquio, who provides some insight on a whirlwind few weeks. With the recent loss of his father, he's still coming to terms with some personal tragedy but is focused on what's ahead and believes the squad will carry extra motivation to deliver a big result against HFX Wanderers.
