“FORMAL EDUCATION WILL MAKE YOU A LIVING; SELF-EDUCATION WILL MAKE YOU A FORTUNE.”
Jim RohnThere’s a difference between schooling and education. One teaches you how to fit into a system, follow instructions, and do as you’re told. The other teaches you how to be creative, innovative, and think for yourself.
Which one would you prefer to be? Even better, which one would you prefer to hire as a manager?
I’ll give you a minute to make up your mind…
Did you make it? Good!
If you’re reading this, I hope you picked thinking for yourself and being innovative.
Self-education is extremely important for anyone looking to get to the next level of their career or turn their side hustle/hobby into a stream of income. If you truly want to make a living at what you do or increase your income, you’re going to have to increase your skills.
My guest today is a sponge. Jon Shoer is the Experience Manager, Concept Development at The Walt Disney Company. He took a summer trip to LA, absorbed everything he could, and turned an opportunity into an exciting career. What started out as traveling the world filming and taking pictures of celebrities, natives in Haiti, bands, models, and more has turned into a full-time job with Disney.
I’ve known Jon since college. We had some great times together and have always dreamed big. I’m personally not surprised one bit by the amazing work he’s been able to create and can’t wait to see what he does next.
Hop into today’s episode and listen as we discuss the importance of self-education and teaching ourselves new skills. Jon shares some of his challenges as a photographer, mistakes made along the way, and key steps on how to take your craft from a hobby to a career.
You’ll be ready to pick up a camera after this one.
