I was treating my relationship with God as if it was a contract and not a covenant. A contract can be broken, one can walk away from a contract - in a covenant, you cannot.
This is what I meant when I was talking about the scars:
In John 20, Jesus never actually says the word “scars,” but the wounds are clearly described. Thomas says, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe” (John 20:25).
When Jesus appears to him, He responds by repeating Thomas’ own words: “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe” (John 20:27). The language assumes the marks are still there, the nail wounds in His hands and the pierced side from the crucifixion (John 19:34).
Scripture doesn’t label these wounds as “scars,” but it clearly presents them as visible, identifiable marks in Jesus’ resurrected body. The risen Christ still bears the evidence of suffering.
