Umut

İngilizce’ye Hope olarak çevrilen Türk filmi Umut, 1970 yılında çekilen bir dram filmidir. Filmi Yılmaz Güney ve Şerif Gören yazmış ve yönetmiş, Güney, ayrıca, filmde Gülşen Alnıaçık ve Tuncel Kurtiz ile beraber oynamıştır.

Hikaye bir faytoncu olan Güney’in oynadığı karakter Cabbar’ın etrafında döner. O, karısı, beş çocuğu ve büyükannesinden oluşan geniş ailesine bakmak zorundadır. Cabbar, sürekli piyango bileti almakta ve hemen hemen herkese borçlanmaktadır. Atlarından biri, bir kaza sonucu ölür ve bu kaza yüzünden atı, o an kaldırımdaki park alanında bekliyor olmasına rağmen suçlu bulunur. Alacaklılar, satmak için diğer atını ve faytonunu alırlar. Çaresizce arkadaşının, antik efsanelere dayanan define hikayesini dinler. O ve arkadaşı okuyup üflemesi için bir üfürükçüye giderler ve onu da yanlarına alarak çölde define aramaya başlarlar.

Umut

The Turkish movie Umut, which translates into English as Hope, is a drama that was shot in 1970.

Yilmaz Guney and Serif Goren wrote and directed the movie, which stars Guney himself, as well as Gulsen Alniacik, and Tuncel Kurtiz.

The story revolves around Guney's character Cabbar, who is a coachman. He has to support his large family, which includes his wife, five children, and their grandmother.

He constantly plays the lottery and owes money to almost everyone.

One of his horses is killed in an accident and he is found guilty of the accident in spite of the fact that his horse was standing still in a parking zone on the sidewalk at the time.

The people he owes money to take away his other horse and his taxi to sell. Despairingly, he ends up listening to his friend's story about a lost treasure from ancient myths.

He and his friend attend a faith healer's session. Taking the healer with them, they end up tracking the lost treasure in the desert.

Most of the journey is narrated around the treasure hunt, and things just continue to get worse and worse for Cabbar throughout the trip.

Eventually he is driven completely insane and turns to god for mercy.

Umut has won numerous awards, including five honors at the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival in 1970.

The movie took Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor and two others.

It also received the Best Actor award at Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.
