“His Name is John”

Today’s reading from Luke 1:57-66 celebrates the birth of John the Baptist, the child of Zechariah and Elizabeth, whose lives were marked by God’s mercy and faithfulness. In a remarkable moment of obedience, both parents affirm the name given by God: John. Upon this declaration, Zechariah’s speech is restored, and he praises God, leaving their community in awe of what the Lord has done.

Elizabeth’s story mirrors the human condition: barren, longing, and unable to fulfill her deepest desire. Yet, God’s mercy transforms her story, just as He has done for us through Jesus. This passage invites us to reflect on the mercy we’ve received and challenges us to share the story of God’s faithfulness with others.
