    https://adventuredogpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/blaine-40pennidog.mp3

Today’s interview is with Blain, the dogdad to Penni @pennidog, an beautiful pit mix rescue with an amazing story of transformation. After an unimaginably terrible life for nearly two years, Penni was rescued in New York. Then she was adopted By Blain who worked tirelessly to help her blossom from a frightened pup to the confident and happy girl that she is today. Together, they moved from the east coast to Las Vegas, and Penni’s adventuring abilities along with her level of happiness soared even higher.

Some of their favorite places to explore close to Las Vegas are Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, with a multitude of trails and canyons to explore. To the east is Lake Mead National Recreation Area, which according the National Park Service website, is “America’s most diverse National Recreation Area!”

Farther away from their home in Vegas, Blaine and Penni have adventured in southern Utah at the Grand Staricase-Escalante National Monument, Lake Powell, Zion National Park, and Moab, Utah. Blain’s favorite place has been Havasu Falls in the Havasupai Reservation near Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.

Penni and Blaine have been featured in a number of media outlets including a video by The Dodo, an article on National Geographic, and several more. All of their media stories, along with loads of information about products they use, and most importantly, Penni’s full story can be found at www.pennidog.com.

Blain gave a shout out to the rescue group @Fur_Friends_in_Need, Meeko and Sarah @kittenbear, Saoly Benson Photography @saolybensonphoto, and The Dodo @thedodo for her feature.

  • Ep8: Carley @ontherowedagain

    https://adventuredogpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/carly-40ontherowedagain.mp3

Today’s interview is with Carley, the dogmom to Cudi and Rowe @ontherowedagain, two Kansas Australian shepherds that have made their way all over the midwest.

One of the local places that Carley likes to go with her doggos is to Lehigh Portland Trails near Iola, Kansas. A bit further is Natural Falls State Park in Oklahoma, and Ha Ha Tonka State Park in Missouri. But her favorite would be Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma.

Carley is making a big life change and moving to Mount Vernon, Washington. Along the way, she’ll be taking a scenic trip, with some planned stops at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Crystal Mill, in Colorado. Next is Medicine Bow, Wyoming for a group camping trip. Then onto City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho, Yosemite National Park  in California, up the coast to Big Sur, Redwood National Park, Canon Beach in Oregon, and on to Mount Vernon.

For Cudi and Rowe, Carley likes her Kurgo Quantum leash and Journey Air harness. She almost exclusively uses bandanas from Urban Hound Co. For her personal gear she likes her Danner boots, Chacos, and her Yeti cooler.

Carley had just a few shoutouts to @girlmeetsmerle, @finnyschminny, and our past guest @red.and.the.blue.duo.

  • Ep7: Jade @Red.and.the.Blue.Duo

    https://adventuredogpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/jade-40red.and_.the_.blue_.duo_.mp3

Today, I interview Jade, the dogmom of Wilson and Bruce @red.and.the.blue.duo, two awesome blue heelers that are just as at home on the Nevada playa as they are in the mountain snow.

In Reno, they hang out at their local dog park at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, Hunter Creek trail, and down by the Truckee River, which runs through  downtown Reno. But several times a week, they make the trip over to the Mt. Rose and Lake Tahoe area for lots of shaded trail hikes. One of the resources Jade uses to locate trails in Lake Tahoe area is www.alltrails.com.

We also talked a little bit about their adventures on BLM land, or Bureau of Land Management, which is public land. The BLM website, found at www.blm.gov is a great resource for finding amazing places to go visit and information for camping, hiking, and other activities on public lands. For places that require permits, such as their upcoming backpacking trip to Desolation Wilderness located in Eldorado National Forest, check out www.recreation.gov.

Jade is super excited about her Groundbird Gear backpack with a custom made harness for Wilson, and uses a Ruffwear pack for Bruce. She uses Ultrapaws dog boots to protect their pads in the desert. For her gear, she relies on her Jetboil stove, a Big Agnes tent, and a new backpack from Exped. As for their food, she uses Only Natural Pet Easyraw in addition to their normal kibble. For treats, she’s a fan of Ruff Bars.

Jade gave a couple of shoutouts to @desert.duo, @heytheredelilahthedog, and @adventures.with.z.

For the intro to the episode, I talked about a few electrolyte products that I’ve personally used and can recommend. My favorite is Elete Electrolyte Add-in for active hydration. In emergencies, I carry Hammer Nutrition Endurolytes and have also used Saltstick Fastchews. For dogs, I don’t have any recommendations yet other than standard feeding and additional snacks to maintain healthy levels of electrolytes. If you’re really interested, here’s a rather in-depth look at hyponatremia in dogs and cats.

  • Ep6: Cassidy @Hiking.with.Honey

    https://adventuredogpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/cassidy-40hiking.with_.honey_.mp3

Today’s interview is with Cassidy, the dogmom of Honey @hiking.with.honey, a Colorado dog who can be found hitting the trails around the Denver area almost every weekend. And now the weather is warming, they are getting into camping. We get into  details of their first camping trip in this episode.

Cassidy and Honey frequent the Westminster Hills Dog Park, a 400+ acre open space park with plenty of off leash area. For more trail hiking, they have a few favorites in and around Flagstaff Mountain near Boulder, Pinewood Springs, and Estes Park, Colorado. Matthews/ Winters Park is her go to for sunrise hikes from fall to spring. Cassidy has used a few resources, including other instagram friends, and an outdoor resource group called Rising Routes @risingroutes. Rising Routes is a diverse group of outdoor enthusiasts with a focus on inclusion.

Though Cassidy originally used a harness with Honey, she has switched to using a collar almost exclusively for hiking. She likes Biothane waterproof collars from 4BlackCollars, online at www.4blackpaws.com. Honey wears bandanas from @malibusadventureclub, with a portion of proceeds going to animal rescue. She also wanted to mention a new company that makes packs for people with dogs, Muttruk @muttruk.

For her photo inspiration, Cassidy likes @nelleandlouise and @theadventuresofscoutthedog. While we didn’t cover it in the interview, she did want to point out a couple of her favorite dog advocate accounts, @adventurepupleilani and @reggieandthevan. And of course, we have to give a big shout out to her friend and neighbor @booneboy.dood.

  • Ep5 Brittany @Bandits_Mighty_Adventures

    https://adventuredogpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/brittany-40bandits_mighty_adventures.mp3

Today’s interview is with Brittany @bandits_mighty_adventures, a Texas catahoula with a lot of natural style. Not only does Bandit enjoy getting out with several of his other dog friends around the Dallas area, but has also made a number of solo trips, including Ozark National Forest in Arkansas.

More locally, Brittany and Bandit frequent Spring Creek Natural Preserve, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, and Fort Worth Nature Preserve. Bandit’s first camping trip was to Palo Duro Canyon State Park along with his friends @Zephyr.Treks and @Duodoggos. On their trip to Arkansas, Brittany and Bandit made a stop at Petit Jean State Park and hiked the Cedar Falls trail. The steep winding trail leads to the base of the 95 foot tall Cedar Falls and is one of Arkansas’s most photographed waterfalls.

Brittany relies on Bandit’s Ruffwear harness for its comfortable fit. She also uses a Wildwood leash and collar, and more bandanas than we have room to mention here! Brittany’s shoutouts include @OliverAdventurePup, @PawsofaBoxer, and @TwoDogsTraveling.

We briefly spoke about camping during the epsiode, and how Brittany was underprepared for her first trip. So, I’ve decided to share my basic camping packing list that I use for most of my trips with Roux. You can see it at Going Camping! spreadsheet

    https://adventuredogpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/natasha-40zephyr.treks_.mp3

Today’s interview is with Natasha, the dog mom of Remi, Zephyr, and Dan (@remi.the.red, @zephyr.treks, @littletandan). Besides their daily fun at @socialpackdogs, these doggos have had some amazing adventures around Texas and Colorado.

A few of their favorite locations include Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, Prayer Mountain trail, and White Rock Creek trail in Dallas. Further from home, Palo Duro Canyon State Park was Zephyr’s first camping adventure. More recent adventures have been in Colorado at the famous Maroon Bells, and Garden of the Gods.

Natasha gave a great list of products she uses which includes Stella and Chewy’s freeze-dried raw food and Ruff Bar dog snacks. While on leash she uses the Mighty Paw hands free dog leash along with the Ruff Wear Front Range harness. For off leash, the Einstein Educator E-collar helps with recall and training. Of course, looking good is key, so they use Sloppy Chops Co Eurolead and bandanas from Paper Paw + Stuff.

Humans are important too! She relies on her Osprey hydration pack and Peak Design Capture Camera Belt Clip to help get those awesome photos (this one is really cool if you’re a photo nerd like me).

Last but definitely not least, Natasha wanted to shout out a few of her many friends:  @Bandits_Mighty_Adventures, @DuoDoggos, @Adventure.Yuki, and @Twodogstraveling.
