As regular host Seoirse is on holidays Laura aka Cressup steps in once again to host this bumper episode as she, Tomas and Kieran go deep underwater to review one of the creepiest games of the year, Stasis: Bone Totem. They also review Firmament, the latest game from Myst developers Cyan and Laura reviews Viewfinder, a first person shooter (but not that kind of shooter!) where you change the world around you with your camera. They also have time to review two other games and discuss the latest news including the sad news that Deponia developers Daedalic are no longer developing games and they talk about new Kickstarters and adventure games announced! All that and much more!

Not many adventure games are set during World War 2 but Gerda: A Flame in winter and its DLC Liva’s Story bucks the trend. Its developer, Shalev Moran, joins Seoirse to talk about setting the game in this time period, what research went into accurately depicting the town Tinglev in the game and how the team went about ensuring the choices mattered to the story in the game. Plus there is a little tease at the end as to what the developers are planing in store in future.

When is an adventure game not an adventure game? This week apparently as Seoirse and Kieran discuss Monkey Island joining the Sea of Thieves universe, Syberia becoming an animated series and a new Deponia game becoming a tactical survival RTS in the fifth and possibly final game in the series, Surviving Deponia. Then Kieran gives BIRTH to the Reviews section in his review of, well, Birth, Seoirse reviews Paws of Coal where you play as a hedgehog who has to find out what caused a pandemic (even the animal kingdom has pandemics it seems) and finally Kieran reviews new Visual Novel/Detective game set in the Tron universe, Tron: Identity.

Seoirse was joined at WASD 2023 by Narrative Designer Madi. She talks about her experience working for Spooky Doorway (Spoiler: they’re great!) and what she learned about narrative design in games from working with them. She also discusses her two thesis (thesi?) she is writing about Irish mythology in video games and using games in education.

In this (thankfully) quiet café Seoirse spoke to musical artist and adventure game developer known for his detective games, Tim Sheinman. Tim spoke about his previous game, Riley and Rochelle and he shows Seoirse a preview build about his upcoming secret game. He also has some interesting thoughts about indie gaming and provides some very useful tips on how survive in this industry!

Before finishing up at WASD Seoirse was joined by the second pair of brothers he met, this time the Lightfoot Bros! The makers of The Mystery of Woolley Mountain spoke about their upcoming game, Sleepytime Village which is coming to Kickstarter very soon. They spoke about the difference in puzzles and story between the two games, the joy of creatively swearing in a game and why they enjoy working with a comic book artist. They then have a right old discussion about Stray and they explain how they have the time to make this game, have jobs, look after family and have a band as well!

Every guest on this podcast is passionate about their work and this truly shows in this episode as Seoirse is joined by Mark Yohalem and James Spanos of Wormwood Studios, developers of two of the most popular adventure games of the last decade, Primordia and Strangeland. Things got slightly emotional as the guests spoke about some of the themes in the games such as dealing with grief and depression but they also had a lot of fun (eg. They have a fun anecdote about how they came up with the name Wormwood Studios). If you are a fan of either of these games this is a must listen and if you haven’t yet played these games then we believe you will want to after listening to this interview.

The podcast for gamers and developers alike!
You can find the all the latest interviews, news and reviews here.
In every two episodes we have interviews with adventure game developers as we get to know the people who make these games. We find out what they’re favourite games are, what inspired them to make adventure games and then we go behind the scenes on how they make their games, what advice they give anyone who wants to create their own adventure game and why we should buy their games.
In every other two episodes podcast creator and adventure game player of more than 20 years, Seoirse Dunbar is joined by fellow adventure gamers and reviewers Tomas Becks writer on The Gaming Outsider and Laura Cress writer on the most popular adventure games website, adventuregamers.com, as they discuss the latest adventure game news, announcements, and they review the latest adventure games released.
