Today, we have the honor of interviewing Priscilla Bordayo, an inspiring advocate from Crime Survivors for Safety & Justice. Priscilla shares powerful insights into her work, focusing on rehabilitation and restoration for both victims and perpetrators of abuse. Her newest role is the State-Wide Manager for CSSJ.
Priscilla has been featured on TCT, Moms Of Miracles, Driven By Women, The Every Day Series, Every Dope Girl, and the Cover Of Women’s Lifestyle Magazine (2019). She was the 2019 Women of the Year and 2020-10 over the next 10 award winner. She is currently up for the Governor’s award! Priscilla currently works for two nonprofits called EVE (Ending Violent Encounters) and Crime Survivors For Safety and Justice. CSSJ is her first National position where she is currently working on the Michigan Safer Act that focuses on victim Compensation and rehabilitation for those who commit crimes.
As an advocate, Priscilla collaborates with state legislators and senators to improve laws supporting crime victims. A significant achievement includes her work on the Victim Compensation laws in Michigan, which now allow victims more time to report crimes and access compensation. Additionally, she has helped establish trauma recovery centers with Henry Ford Hospital.
This episode with Priscilla Bordayo is a testament to the power of healing and forgiveness in breaking cycles of abuse. Her work with Crime Survivors for Safety & Justice brings hope and tangible change to countless lives.

Carrie Rathbun is the owner of Rathbun Public Relations. Carrie is an accomplished public relations expert, she has been in the field for 32 years, with 22 of those years running her own PR company from her home on Lake Victoria in Laingsburg. Her journey in PR began in high school, where she discovered her talent for public speaking and writing. This led her to Michigan State University, where she majored in communications and received guidance and mentorship from industry professionals.
Throughout her career, Carrie has worked across various sectors, including nonprofit, corporate, and multi-client agency work, allowing her to develop a broad and versatile skill set.
In 2018, after receiving the Athena Award, Carrie became deeply involved with Athena International, an organization dedicated to empowering women. After meeting Athena’s CEO at a Lansing WIN event, she joined the Athena Women’s Leadership Cohort and became a certified facilitator. Carrie now runs cohorts focusing on enlightened leadership principles, helping women recognize their potential and develop leadership skills. Carrie’s PR work is rooted in building relationships through effective communication, research, planning, implementation, and evaluation. She helps clients understand their audiences, craft messages, and navigate various PR challenges, including crisis communication and internal communications.

The boutique is one of the first stores in the new Middle Village shopping area. Cocobella is famous for its unique items, like vegan tote bags with French designer labels and customized military jackets. Beeka also provides personal styling services, helping clients create a personalized wardrobe. The first consultation is free, making this service even more appealing.
Beeka’s goal is to build lasting relationships with her clients, offering excellent customer service and creating a welcoming space where women feel comfortable and confident. Dorrie’s journey from conceptualization to prototype development and finally to a patented product has been marked by persistence and innovation. The product, first hand-made for a dozen homes, has since evolved and improved, leading to broader market acceptance.

Rachel moved to Lansing in 2017 after living in Minnesota, California, and New York, initially pursuing a theater career. Her volunteer work at a domestic violence shelter shifted her path to supporting underrepresented communities. Joining CASA on the day pandemic stay-home orders began, Rachel led the organization through significant growth by transitioning to online systems, expanding their reach, and serving 40% more children annually from 2020 to 2023.
CASA volunteers, appointed by judges, advocate for children weekly, ensuring their needs are met within the system and community. Rachel’s leadership has been pivotal in this expansion, providing stability and continuity for children. After studying financial management and economics, Nick faced a challenging job market and started in a life insurance firm, which didn’t align with his values. He then worked at a bank and a credit union, where he discovered his passion for financial life planning—helping clients get a better return on life, not just on their money.
Nick co-hosts the “Kitchen Table Finance” podcast with David Shotwell, where they discuss financial topics to help listeners manage their money better. At Shotwell Rutter Baer, Nick and his team focus on growing the financial planning industry and providing a supportive environment for young planners.
