We do not talk too much television on our humble little podcast. But there is one show that we have namedropped a few times the past few months. And for good reason. Widow's Bay is one of the best shows to come along in a long time. Apparently, we are not the only ones to think so. We talk about Zack's Cregger's recent apology tour and the importance of hygiene when going to the movie theater.

We loved the original M3GAN. It came out of nowhere and surprised us with just how good it ended up being. Which is why M3GAN 2.0 was such a disappointment to us. It is not so much that is was a bad movie; it is more about how it ruined the first movie. M3GAN stopped being thing before it had a chance to really become one.

How big was the first movie? So much so that not only was their the inevitable sequel, there was also a spinoff. But Soulm8te was not just going to be in the same universe. It was going to be an erotic horror that catered more to adults than the franchise it sprung from.

And it does a very good job. It is sexy, gory, and has some strong performances. There are some missteps along the way, but they are the kind of things to be expected from a new movie. Unfortunately, the stink of M3GAN 2.0 may end up marring what is a very competent film.

A few months back we covered the bad news concerning Bruce Campbell’s health. We knew things would get worse; we just were not aware of how quickly it would be. We also have more news about Zack Creggers and his role in Gladys. And we thought our interest in the prequel could not get any lower.

The Raid is easily one of the top three best action movies of this century. Nothing has even come close to the action and mayhem it gave audiences fifteen years ago. And it looked like nothing ever would. Until The Furious came along this year.

The plot is straight and to the point. Child trafficking, missing spouses, revenge. There is not much depth, but it gets the job done. There is not much in the way of characters. Two heroes and a few villains. But everyone does an excellent job of leaving their mark on the film.

But it is in the action scenes that The Furious stands out. As we say multiple times, there is nothing like it. The fight scenes are incredible. They are an excellent mix of great choreography, use of the environment, and just in your face brutality. It is basically a two hour fight scene that takes place in the span of one night. And it is amazing.

It is nice to see a long running franchise try something different. The new Evil Dead movies are an excellent example. So when we heard that a new director was interested in directing A Nightmare on Elm Street, we were interested. Until we found out who that director was.

We spent a few weeks last year talking about Welcome to Derry. You can listen to just about every episode we had in November and December to hear all our thoughts about the show. The cliff notes version is we did not like it. So what do we think about season two and the news it will be adapting one of the best parts of It?

It’s a shame they do not make as many sword and sorcery movies anymore. Times and tastes change, but it seems like stories of heroes fighting evil with magic and swords would be timeless. You will come across one every once in a while - we have even covered a few here - but their heyday has long since passed.

Which is why we went back to 1982 and Conquest for our feature presentation. The movie is everything you would expect. Lots of fighting and nudity with just a little plot. But it is the work of a surprising director that makes this a must see from the genre.

We hate to start the show with sad news. But the older we get, the more it seems to happen. Two icons from our childhood suddenly passed away and we talk about their accomplishments and the legacy they left behind.

Despite not actually reviewing it for our show, we have talked a lot about Obsession. The little horror film has caught the public imagination like no other movie this year. We talk about the success of Obsession and what it means to indie horror in general.

We do not shy away from movies that make us uncomfortable. On the contrary, we often go looking for them. We did not expect Penny Lane is Dead to be one of those films. We figured it would be a fun homage to 1980s Ozploitation. And in a lot of ways it was.

But then there are the moments that harken to a darker side of the sub-genre. The movie is disgusting, bloody, tense, and an all around difficult watch. And through it all it manages to sneak in some genuine humor. It was a confusing watch to say the least. We had no hesitation when it came to the ending, however.

One of horror’s most dependable constants are Stephen King adaptations. The latest one takes a book that mixes one of the author’s greatest strengths. King is great at mixing grounded scares with supernatural horror. Which is why the team announced to work on Desperation is interesting. Plus, another clever marketing stunt from Neon.

We have not discussed the Paramount-WB merger. And for good reason. We do not know enough about it and we kinda don’t give a shit. But there is some interesting news to come out of it. Apparently with the rights for A Nightmare on Elm Street all over the place, both studios are scrambling to get a new movie out first. How sweet, fresh meat.

Buffet Infinity gets off to one of the strongest starts we have seen for any movie possibly ever. It is clever, funny, creepy, and mysterious. The indie horror is a mix of found footage and sketch comedy that manages to be familiar and unique at the same time. Through the first act, it seemed like we had found something really special.

The film then proceeded to take one of the greatest nose dives we have ever seen. It becomes completely derailed and goes from being about two warring restaurants to just a bunch of unexplained nonsense. Nothing makes sense and it is clear that an ending was never penned for this mess.

Following last’s week review, Ice Cream Man became a huge talking point on the internet. At the time of recording, the use of AI had not been revealed. And though we thought the movie should be avoided in theaters, we also thought it was worth streaming. Our opinions have not changed, but we do follow it to discuss Eli Roth’s latest release.

This leads into a discussion about Touch Grass. The upcoming movie is an AI-generated horror movie. Unsurprisingly, this has upset a good amount of people But how does it tie into the next V/H/S release? Plus another remake of a 1980s “classic”.

The Hunger from 1983 is one of the most unique movies we have ever covered on our humble little podcast. On the surface, there does not seem to be anything outstanding about it. It is a tale about a vampire grappling with immortality and lost loves.

Watching the movie is a whole other matter. There is not much to the story-at least anything that is there will require a lot of guesswork and filling in the gaps by the viewer. But it looks incredible. The Hunger clearly influenced the music videos and erotic thrillers that would come to dominate the 80s. We discuss its legacy and why it is not talked about more..

It is surprising how little people talk about Robocop. When it first came out it was amazing. The character was awesome, the movie was great, and the action was second to none. As is usually the case, the sequels worsened and the recent remake was not so great. Still, it is surprising to see how the property has all but disappeared.

The days of telling a singular story in one movie seem to be gone. Weapons was one of our favorite movies from last year. That being said, we really were not clamoring for more. Unsurprisingly, we are lukewarm on news of the upcoming Gladys prequel. There is still a very good chance that it will be just as great as the source material, but we aren’t stoked for it.

Ice Cream Man is the latest release from Eli Roth. It is wacky, over the top, and very very bloody. It is the most Eli Rothiest movie ever. It is something of a passion project where Roth did every crazy thing he has ever wanted to do. The end result is a very silly and entertaining watch.

We also try to figure out what Roth’s place in horror is. He definitely is not up there with the greats like Carpenter and Romero, but he has also left behind an impressive body of work. Is it enough to consider him an icon or is he just a name people know?

It has been a long time since we have talked about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But this week we have a lot to talk about. And it is more than just the Doomsday trailer and the upcoming Spider-Man movie. On the plus side, it seems like the MCU may be closer to the darker Marvel that people have dreamed about for years. That being said, we also heard that with the last Doctor Strange movie and The New Mutants. Only time will tell, but we are interested in what is happening.

We have nothing against toilet humor and low hanging fruit. Troma is responsible for some of our favorite movies. And just generally speaking it is good to have a palette cleanser. Not every movie can be high art or a thrill a minute slasher. Bowels of Hell is a one joke movie. Literally. Every single gag in the Brazilian import is centered around shit. This is not the problem, however. It actually builds well to a pretty cool ending. But the ride there is an arduous one. In between the comedy are long stretches of exposition that fail deliver the message the movie seems to be trying to make.

It is impossible to have a horror podcast and not talk about ‘Friday the 13th’ and ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’. And most of our time has been spent wondering how there has not been a new entry in either of the fan favorite franchises for decades. We finally have a little bit of news on both of them.

We also talk about the surprising success of Widow’s Bay. If you take a 10,000 foot view of Rubberhead: The Life and Monsters of Steve Johnson, you will think you know exactly what it is about. And you would not be completely wrong. The documentary surprised us by being one of the most emotional and information watches we have ever had.

If you grew up as a horror fan in the 1980s or early 90s, chances are you have seen Johnson’s work. He invented Slimer, worked on ‘Species’, created the arms for Doctor Octopus in ‘Spider-Man 2’, and worked on the still outstanding special effects for ‘An American Werewolf in London’. And that is just the very tip of the iceberg.

But along with being an incredible genius, he is also incredibly self-destructive. This makes Rubberhead one of the most frustrating watches of the year. His work is amazing, but he also knows what is shortcomings are and has no interest in fixing them.

The ‘Evil Dead’ franchise means a lot to us. It has touched us on a personal level, it has earned its place in horror history, and it is one of the few franchises in Hollywood to never release a bad installment. We talk about whether ‘Evil Dead Burn’ continues the trend and why it will probably always be the most polarizing entry in the series.

A few weeks back we talked about how ‘Evil Dead Burn’ had to be trimmed in order to get an ‘R’ rating. We wondered how bad it could have been and even tried to figure out what extreme horror even means today. As it turns out, ‘Evil Dead Burn’ is incredibly graphic. Was it too much or perfect for an ‘Evil Dead’ movie?

There has been lots of talk about how ‘Evil Dead Burn’ does not fit into the franchise. (This seems to be a conversation whenever a new 'Evil Dead film releases.) There is definitely nothing else like it in the series. We also compare it to another movie that was released this year and wonder which was the better ‘Evil Dead’ movie.
